Mason Co. hosts first indoor track meet of the season

The Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association indoor track meet was held Saturday at the US Bank-Mason County Schools Indoor Athletic Complex. Mason County won the boys' meet and took third place in the girls' meet. Mason County junior Madison Paver won the girls' 55 meter dash (7.92). Mason County freshman Nick Robinson won the boys' 800 meter run (2:23.33). Mason County's team of Valerie Rice, Raylee Kirkland, Cara Woods and Julia Woods won the girls' 4x800 meter relay. Lady Royals varsity and middle school take first place in Blue Jay XC Invitational

The Mason County Lady Royals varsity and middle school teams opened the season Saturday with first place finishes in the Blue Jay Cross Country Invitational in Ripley. All five varsity girls medalled- Valerie Rice in second place, Julia Woods third, Sarah Bellingham 10th, Raylee Kirkland 11th and Carley Moore 12th. The girls middle school team was led by Sierra Anderson in third place and Cara Woods in fourth place. The boys varsity was led by Nick Robinson's second place finish and Nathan Woods in ninth place.

Lady Royals 1st, Royals 2nd at Fleming County All-Comers

Mason County took first place in the girls' meet and second place in the boys' meet at the Fleming County All-Comers meet Thursday night. First place finishes by Mason County athletes include:
  • Katie Redmond, girls' 100 meter dash;
  • Valerie Rice, girls' 400 meter dash;
  • Iretta Carpenter, girls' 100 meter hurdles and the girls' 300 meter hurdles;
  • Raylee Kirkland, girls' pole vault;
  • Seth Adkins, boys' 100 meter dash;
  • Girls' 4x100 meter relay;
  • Girls' 4x200 meter relay;
  • Girls' 4x800 meter relay;

Adkins 2nd in the 55m and 3rd in the 400m, four new school records set at Mason-Dixon Games

Mason County senior Seth Adkins finished second in the 55 meters (6.81) and third in the 400 meters (53.43) Saturday in the 50th Annual Mason-Dixon Games in Louisville. Adkins' time in the 400 meters is a new school record. Sophomore Valerie Rice finished 8th and set a new school record in the 800 meters in a time of 2:35.20. Two Mason County relay teams also set school records- the boys' 4x800 meter relay team of junior Connor Appelman, senior Jim Myers, 8th grader Nick Robinson and junior Nathan Woods (9:17.23), and the girls' 4x800 meter relay team of freshman Sarah Bellingham, freshman Raylee Kirkland, sophomore Valerie Rice and freshman Julia Woods (11:01.38). The Lady Royals' fifth place finish in the team standings is the best in school history. Mason County was ninth in the boys' meet. Here is a link to the results.

Adkins 3rd in the 200 meter dash, girls 4x800 team sets school record

Mason County senior Seth Adkins finished third in the boys' 200 meter dash in a time of 22.80 in the Wildcat Classic indoor track and field meet at the University of Kentucky Saturday. The girls' 4x800 meter relay team of Valerie Rice, Sarah Bellingham, Raylee Kirkland and Julia Woods set a new school record- 11:16.70- and finished 7th. Those same four girls had set the previous school record last year at the state indoor championships. Senior Jim Myers took 10th place in the boys' two-mile run with a time of 10:45.39. Mason County will host indoor meets the next five Saturdays.

Woods and Lady Royals win region, Royals 2nd

Mason County freshman Julia Woods won her third straight individual regional title and the Lady Royals won the team title for the second consecutive year today at the Class AA Region 6 cross country meet at Boyd County. The Royals finished second in the boys' regional. Both teams advance to the state meet. It is the Mason County boys' first regional trophy since 1973. Woods won with a time of 20:35.90. Two other Lady Royals- freshman Raylee Kirkland and sophomore Valerie Rice- finished in the top 10. Kirkland was fourth and Rice was sixth.
The Royals were led by three top 10 runners- senior Jim Myers (6th), eighth grader Nick Robinson (7th) and junior Nathan Woods (8th). The state meet will be held next Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. Here are links to the Region 6 results:

Mason County girls 2nd, boys 4th in Area 7 Championships

The Mason County girls took second place and the Mason County boys finished seventh in the varsity divisions of the Area 7 Championships Saturday at the Mason County cross country course. Mason County freshmen Julia Woods and Raylee Kirkland finished second and eighth respectively in the girls' 5K race. Mason County senior Jim Myers was fourth in the boys' 5K race. The top seven in each race earn Area 7 First Team honors. Runners in eighth through 14th place are Second Team. Here are links to the results:
