Team USA Men's 3x3 basketball team wins the silver medal, Owens Crawford on the coaching staff

The Team USA Men's 3x3 basketball squad won the silver medal at the 2025 FISU World University Games in Germany on Sunday.

Mason County Royals assistant basketball coach Owens Crawford was an assistant coach and statistician for the men's team.

Team USA lost to Lithuania 21-16 in the Gold Medal Game after beating Poland 21-14 in the quarterfinals on Saturday and edging Czechia 19-17 in the semifinals on Sunday.

Owens Crawford joins Team USA Men's 3x3 basketball coaching staff for the 2025 FISU World University Games

Mason County Royals assistant basketball coach Owens Crawford has been named to the coaching staff of the Team USA Men's 3x3 basketball squad that will compete in the 2025 FISU World University Games in Germany.

According to a news release from Sports Reach Basketball, Crawford will serve as an assistant coach and statistician.

The 2025 FISU World University Games are scheduled July 16-27 in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany.

Feldhaus and Crawford added to Mason County boys' basketball coaching staff

 The Mason County boys' basketball program on Saturday announced two additions to its coaching staff: Deron Feldhaus as an assistant varsity coach and Owens Crawford as head freshman coach and an assistant varsity coach.

Feldhaus, a 1987 graduate of Mason County High School, is fifth on the Royals' all-time scoring list with 1,937 career points. He played for his father, Allen Feldhaus, who is the Royals' winningest coach. Deron was an "Unforgettable" for the University of Kentucky Wildcats.

Crawford, a 2016 graduate of Augusta High School, was the Panthers' point guard under coach Brian Kirk who is now Mason County's head coach. Crawford played college basketball at Kentucky Christian University and was a graduate assistant for Baylor University's 2021 national championship team. He was the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant at Live Oak Classical School in Waco, Texas last season.

Augusta comes from behind to beat Scott

The Augusta Panthers rallied from a 12-point third quarter deficit to beat the Scott Eagles 72-71 today in the quarterfinal round of the 10th Region Tournament at Montgomery County High School Arena.

Augusta junior Jack Laycock, pressed into action after two starters fouled out, made the game-winning layup with five seconds left in the game.

Laycock missed two free throws with 13 seconds remaining, but Camryn Snapp ran down the rebound after the second miss, The Panthers got to the ball to Laycock who scored his only two points of the game on the layup. Scott missed two shots in the final seconds, and Augusta had its 10th straight victory.

Augusta shot 65.2% from the field in the second half (15-of-23) and 58.7% for the game.

Connor Maddox scored 15 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter. Snapp scored 14 points and Owens Crawford added 12.

Jake Ohmer scored 30 points for Scott.

Augusta will play the Montgomery County Indians in Monday night's semifinals. Montgomery County defeated Pendleton County 48-41 in the today's second game.

Augusta rallies to beat Mason County on Tanner Pugh's buzzer beater

Tanner Pugh picked up a loose ball and hit a buzzer beater to give the Augusta Panthers a 63-61 win over the Mason County Royals in the championship game of the 39th District Tournament tonight at Bracken County.

Mason County was in control for three and a half quarters. The Royals had a 14-point lead in the second quarter and were up 57-44 with 4:38 to play and 59-50 with 3:50 left in the game.

Conner Maddox scored five straight points on a fast break layup and a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to four points. 

Conner Sweeney's layup made it 61-55 with 1:21 to play. 

After two missed 3-point shots and two offensive rebounds by the Panthers, Maddox hit a 3-pointer with one minute to play.

Mason County turned the ball over and Owens Crawford tied the game with a trey from the right wing with 40 seconds to go.

The Royals were playing for the last shot when they committed another turnover with 16 seconds left. 

It was Augusta's turn to go for the final shot. Jaylen Lofton tipped the ball away from Crawford, but the ball went to Pugh who swished the game-winning basket from just inside the three-point arc on the left wing.

It's Augusta's third district championship in four years. The Panthers have won nine straight games.

Antwavon "Pig" Williams and  Isaiah Garrison scored 20 points apiece for Mason County.

Maddox scored 12 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter. Camryn Snapp kept Augusta in the game by scoring nine of his 19 points in the third quarter.

Augusta Tops St. Patrick 67-61

The Augusta Panthers defeated the St. Patrick Saints 67-61 Tuesday night at St. Patrick.

St. Patrick led 14-8 at the end of the first quarter, but the Panthers outscored the Saints 29-16 in the second quarter.

Augusta guard Owens Crawford scored 11 of his game-high 23 points in the second quarter. Connor Maddox added 21 points for the Panthers.

Jakaar Frey led St. Patrick in scoring with 19 points. Ben Swolsky added 18 points.

Royals Beat Augusta 77-66 in First Round of US Bank Mike Murphy Classic

The Mason County Royals ran their winning streak to six games with a 77-66 victory over the Augusta Panthers tonight in the first round of the US Bank Mike Murphy Classic.

Antwavon "Pig" Williams scored a game-high 26 points. Darren Williams followed with 14 points. Isaiah Garrison tossed in 12 points and Conner Sweeney had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Connor Maddox led Augusta with 21 points. Owens Crawford scored 17 and Tanner Pugh added 12.

Mason County shot 57.9 percent from the field. Augusta made more free throws (24) than field goals (19).

Mason County will play St. Henry in the semifinals Tuesday at 8 p.m. Augusta will play Lewis County in the consolation semifinals Tuesday at 2 p.m.

In the other games today, Montgomery County defeated Simon Kenton 78-66, St. Henry beat Lewis County 63-49 and Lawrence County topped Fleming County 86-66.
