Northeastern Ky East/West Senior Bowl June 12; Jackson Tolle in the first class of Bowl Hall of Fame

The Northeastern Kentucky East/West Senior Bowl, sponsored by Kentucky National Guard, will be played June 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Morehead State University. Russell Red Devils coach T.J. Maynard will coach the East team; Fleming County Panthers coach Bill Spencer will coach the West squad. Game Director Tom Posey has announced the first class of the East/West Senior Bowl Hall of Fame. It includes former Mason County standout Jackson Tolle and retired coaches Ivan McGlone of Russell and Corky Prater of Lewis County. The Hall of Famers will be introduced at halftime.

News and notes

Here are some news and notes to catch up on some local sports:

• Former Mason County football players Jackson Tolle and Colt Fearis will receive Mid-South Conference Championship rings. Georgetown College won its 17th conference title. The Tigers play MidAmerica Nazarene Saturday in the first round of the NAIA playoffs;
• Mason County offensive tackle Alex Newton has been invited to playin the Kentucky All-Star football game. A team of Louisville all-stars will play a team of all-stars from the rest of the state;
• The Mason County Royals will host the Highland Bluebirds in the 2011 football season. Highlands has won 19 state championships. The Bluebirds have won three consecutive Class 5A state titles. Highlands will drop down to Class 4A next season;
• Trevor Setty scored a season-high 19 points for Pikeville College in the Tigers' 108-71 victory over Glenville State on Nov. 10

Tolle and Tigers celebrating Homecoming win

Georgetown College junior defensive tackle Jackson Tolle (No. 14 in photo) had two solo tackles and two assisted tackles in the Tigers' 70-58 Homecoming victory over Pikeville College last week. Tolle had two tackles for a loss including a sack. Tolle missed the first four games of the season due to an injury. Georgetown (4-2) plays West Virginia Tech on the road this Saturday.

Georgetown College Orange-Black Game is tonight

The Georgetown College football team will play its annual Orange-Black Game tonight at 7 o'clock. Jackson Tolle, who will be a junior next season, starts at defensive end for the Tigers.
Mason County senior Colt Fearis, a Georgetown signee, is scheduled to attend the game as part of Rookie Weekend. Admisson is $5.

Tolle second in all lifting categories for Georgetown lineman

Georgetown College defensive end Jackson Tolle received a plaque for finishing second in all lifting categories for linemen during winter workouts. Tolle, a rising junior, benched 225 23 times, squatted 450, did 17 pull-ups and 62 set-ups in a minute, and and maxed benched 415. Tolle received the plaque on the first day of spring practice. Georgetown's annual Orange-Black Spring Game is April 22.

Jackson Tolle receives letterman jacket at Georgetown College

Georgetown College sophomore Jackson Tolle received his letterman jacket Wednesday night. Tolle, a defensive end on the football team, earned his varsity letter as a freshman, but players have to wait a year to receive their letterman jacket.

Keeping up with local college athletes

As the football season winds down and the basketball season cranks up, several local college athletes are excelling. Here are a few updates:

• Jackson Tolle had four tackles (including one for a loss) and a forced fumble in Georgetown's 35-17 loss to Lambuth;
• Chris Marshall scored a touchdown on a 10-yard run to help Ohio Wesleyan beat Hiram 38-6;
• Darius Miller scored 11 points and had four rebounds, seven assists, two steals and one block in Kentucky's 117-52 exhibition win over Clarion;
• De'Sarae Chambers had six points, two rebounds and one assist and Dayton beat Indiana (Pa.) 56-49 in an exhibition;
• Mikah Turner is off to a fast start for the Berea Mountaineers. He is averaging 21 points a game through three games and he scored a season-high 23 points in a 108-46 win over Boyce College;
• Kasey Litzinger had three rebounds, two assists and one steal for Lindsey Wilson in a 63-54 victory over Indiana University Southeast;
• Wesley Jones started and had five points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal as Central State University beat the University of Toledo 56-49 in an exhibition game.

Catching up with the local college athletes

Several local athletes are playing college sports this fall. Here is an update on a few of them. If you know someone I left out, send me an e-mail.

• Rebecca Batey had two goals as Asbury College rallied to beat Taylor University 4-3 Friday. She scored the Eagles' only goal in a 2-1 loss to Indiana Wesleyan Saturday night. Batey has started all seven of Asbury's games and has scored a team-high seven goals. Her twin sister, Jessica, has started three games and has one assist;


• Jackson Tolle had four tackles before suffering a pulled hamstring in the first quarter of the Georgetown College Tigers' 31-21 loss to University of the Cumberlands;


• Terrence Breckenridge has made the traveling squad for the Campbellsville University football team;


• Cheryl Rutherford has transferred to Indiana University East in Richmond, IN for her junior year. She will play for the first-year IU East women's tennis program. Rutherford played on two national championship basketball teams at Kentucky Christian University;

Tolle has six tackles in Georgetown College win

Sophomore defensive end Jackson Tolle had six tackles (two solo) as the Georgetown College Tigers opened the season with a 22-14 win over William Penn Saturday in the Big River Bowl in Dyersburg, Tenn. Georgetown's next game is Sept. 12 at Cumberland University. The Tigers' home opener is Sept. 19 vs. Webber International.

Jackson Tolle begins football practice at Georgetown College

The Georgetown College football team begins practice today. Sophomore defensive end Jackson Tolle reported and tested. He is 6-2 and weighs 233 pounds. He did 19 repetitions at 225 pounds and ran a 4.69 40-yard dash. The Tigers open the season Aug. 29 vs. William Penn in the Big River Bowl in Dyersburg, TN.

Jackson Tolle fast and strong at Georgetown College testing

Jackson Tolle ran a 4.71 in the 40-yard dash at the Georgetown College Tigers' testing. He was the fastest among the linebackers and defensive linemen. Tolle was second on the team in the 20-yard shuttle (4.1) and in the top 5 in bench reps 225 pounds 18 times.

Jackson Tolle has two sacks and four tackles in spring game

Sophomore-to-be Jackson Tolle had two sacks, four tackles and forced a fumble in the Georgetown College spring football game last night. The Black team defeated the Orange team 54-48. Tolle, a defensive end, was on the Black team. Georgetown opens the season Aug. 29 against William Penn in the Big River Bowl in Dyersburg, Tenn.

Tolle letters at Georgetown College

Freshman defensive end Jackson Tolle lettered in varsity football at Georgetown College. The Tigers' banquet was held on Dec. 7. Tolle was one of eight true freshmen to letter. He played in six games and made eight tackles (five solo). Tolle begins winter workouts on Jan. 19.

Tolle has two tackles in Georgetown

Freshman defensive end Jackson Tolle had two solo tackles in Georgetown College's 59-21 win over Pikeville College last Saturday. Tolle has played in six of the Tigers' eight games. He has eight tackles (five solo and three assisted). Georgetown plays at Lambuth University on Saturday.

Tolle has 3 tackles in Georgetown's win over KCU

Georgetown College freshmen defensive end Jackson Tolle had three tackles (one solo and two unassisted) in the Tigers' 58-33 victory over the Kentucky Christian University Knights Thursday night. Ray Huron played the whole game at center for KCU. Tolle and Huron are 2008 graduates of Mason County High School. Georgetown College's next game is Oct. 18 at the University of the Cumberlands. KCU plays Trinity Bible College Oct. 18 at South Point High School in South Point, OH.

Tolle and Huron will be on opposing teams Thursday night

Former Mason County teammates Jackson Tolle and Ray Huron will be on opposing teams Thursday night when the Georgetown College Tigers host the Kentucky Christian University Knights. Tolle is a true freshmen defensive end for Georgetown. Huron is a true freshman
offensive lineman for KCU. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Toyota Stadium.

Tolle Catches a Pass in Scrimmage vs. UK

Jackson Tolle caught one pass for about 15 yards in Georgetown College's 7-on-7 scrimmage with the University of Kentucky Thursday night at UK. Tolle will be a freshmen tight end for the Tigers this season. Georgetown is scheduled to scrimmage UK again Tuesday and the University of Cincinnati Thursday.

All-Star Weekend for Local Athletes

While Darius Miller leads the Kentucky All-Stars against the Indiana All-Stars in the annual hoops series this weekend, four former Mason County football players will be playing in all-star games on the gridiron.
As Mr. Basketball, Miller will wear the No. 1 jersey for the Kentucky All-Stars Friday night at
Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and Sunday at Louisville Gardens.
Richie Cox and Wylie Brace will play in the East-West All-Star Football Game Friday night at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in Louisville.
Jackson Tolle and Ray Huron will play in the East-West Senior Bowl at Raceland High School.

Tolle Attends Rookie Weekend at Georgetown College

Mason County senior Jackson Tolle attended Rookie Weekend for football signees at Georgetown College. Tolle ran the fastest 40 yard dash and was third in the bench press with 12 reps of 225. Tolle signed with Georgetown in February. He will play tight end for the Tigers.

Jackson Tolle Signs with Georgetown College

Mason County senior Jackson Tolle signed today to play football at Georgetown College. Tolle picked Georgetown over Pikeville College and Kentucky Christian University. Tolle played tight end, defensive end and linebacker for Mason County. He will play tight end for the Tigers. Tolle had 14 receptions for 285 yards and three touchdowns last season. Tolle was named second team all-state as a defensive end by the Courier-Journal. He is a forward on the Mason County basketball team.
