Eight area golfers earn All-Region recognition
Eight area golfers earned All-Region recognition from the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association.
Lewis County senior Logan Liles was named Region 12 Golfer of the Year. He is joined on the All-Region Team by the five members of the Mason County Royals region championship team. They are Logan Shepherd, Mason Butler, Grant Owens, Jake Feldhaus and Kaden Grooms.
Macey Littleton of Mason County and Sadie Price of Fleming County were named to the girls' All-Region Team.
All-State points were used to select the All-Region teams.

Royals finish in fifth place at Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys State Golf Championship
The Mason County Royals shot a 47-over 335 in the final round of the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys State Golf Championship today at Bowling Green Country Club and took fifth place.
Mason County had a 36-hole total of 79-over. Christian Academy of Louisville won the state championship at 21-over.
The Royals were led again today by Kaden Grooms who shot his second straight 78. Jake Feldhaus followed with an 83. Mason Butler carded an 86 and Grant Owens added an 88. Logan Shepherd shot a 92. The four best scores are used for the team total.

Royals in fifth place after first round of Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys State Golf Championship
The Mason County Royals are in fifth place after the first round of the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys State Golf Championship.
The Royals had a team total of 32-over 320 today at Bowling Green Country Club. Christian Academy of Louisville has the first round lead at 9-over. Madison Central is one shot back in second place. Greenwood is in third place at 14-over and Ryle holds down fourth place at 23-over.
Mason County was led Kaden Grooms with a 6-over 78. Jake Feldhaus and Logan Shepherd each shot a 79. Grant Owens followed with an 84. Mason Butler carded a 95. The best four scores are used in the team total.
The final round will be played on Saturday.

Tee times set for the first round of the state golf tournaments
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association today released the first round tee times for the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Golf State Championships next week at Bowling Green Country Club. The first round of the girls' tournament is on October 5. The boys' tournament begins on October 8.

Royals back-to-back region champions
The Mason County Royals won the Region 12 Golf Tournament for the second straight year today.
The Royals fired a 287 at Laurel Oaks Golf Course. Montgomery County was the runner-up at 307. Fleming County took third place at 311. The region champion is the only team to advance to the state tournament.
Mason County was led by Mason Butler, Logan Shepherd and Grant Owens who each shot a 1-under 71. Jake Feldhaus followed with a 74 to round out the team score. Kaden Grooms shot a 77. The top four scores are used for the team total.
A scorecard playoff broke ties in the individual standings. Butler took third place, Shepherd fourth and Owens fifth. Feldhaus finished in seventh place.
Montgomery County senior Logan McCormick was the individual champion with a 3-under 69. Lewis County senior Logan Liles was the runner-up at 2-under 70.
Fleming County freshman Seth Hickerson shot a 75 and qualified for the state tournament by earning one of the spots in a 3-for-2 playoff.
The Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys' State Golf Championship will be played October 8-9 at Bowling Green Country Club.

Royals finish in third place at Kentucky 2A Championship
The Mason County Royals finished in 3rd place in the inaugural Kentucky 2A Championships state golf tournament.
The Royals had a team score of 21-over 309 today at Owensboro Country Club.
Christian Academy of Louisville won the tournament with a 293. Taylor County was the runner-up with a 303.
Logan Shepherd led Mason County with a 2-over 74 and finished in 6th place. Jake Feldhaus tied for 9th place with a 76. Mason Butler finished in 16th place with a 78. Grant Owens shot an 81 and tied for 24th place. Kaden Grooms carded an 82 and tied for 26th place.

Royals finish in 6th place in St. Elizabeth HealthCare Invitational
The Mason County Royals finished in 6th place in the St. Elizabeth Healthcare Invitational today at The Willows Golf Course in Independence.
The Royals had a team score of 318. The Ryle Raiders won with a team score of 294.
Jake Feldhaus led Mason County with a 3-over 75 and tied for 8th place. Logan Shepherd shot a 77. Mason Butler had an 82. Grant Owens carded an 84 and Kaden Grooms followed with an 85.

Royals win Laurel Oaks Classic
Playing on their home course that will host the Region 8 tournament, the Mason County Royals shot a 290 and won the Laurel Oaks Classic by 13 shots today.
Kaden Grooms fired a 3-under 69 and tied for second place. Logan Shepherd and Jake Feldhaus each shot 73. Mason Butler followed with a 75 and Grant Owens carded a 76.
The Royals have won six tournaments this season.

Royals finish is 6th place at Madison Central Invitational
The Mason County Royals finished sixth out of 16 teams in the Madison Central Invitational today at Gibson Bay Golf Course in Richmond with a team score of 317. Madison Central won by shooting 295.
Mason Butler led the Royals with a 3-over 75. Logan Shepherd shot a 77, Jake Feldhaus followed with a 79 and Grant Owens carded an 86 round out the team total. Kaden Grooms shot an 87.

Royals win Broncos Classic at Greenbrier
The Mason County Royals won the Broncos Classic presented by Frederick Douglass at Greenbrier Golf and Country Club in Lexington today with a team score of 300. It's the Royals' fifth tournament win of the season.
Kaden Grooms led the Royals with a 2-over 74. Mason Butler and Logan Shepherd each shot a 75 and Grant Owens and Jake Feldhaus both shot a 76.

Shepherd wins medalist honors and leads Mason County to a win in the Conner-Strong Invitational
Mason County senior Logan Shepherd shot a 2-under 70 to win medalist honors and led the Royals to a victory in the Conner-Strong Invitational at the Willows Golf Course in Independence.
The Royals had a team score of 300. Grant Owens and Jake Feldhaus each shot a 75, Mason Butler followed with a 78 and Kaden Grooms carded a 79.
Zach Ring, playing as an individual, finished third with a 74.

Royals finish in 9th place in LCA Kentucky Cup
Playing in their sixth tournament is as many days, the Mason County Royals finished in 9th place in the Lexington Christian Academy Kentucky Cup today on the University Club of Kentucky Wildcat Course.
The Royals had a team score of 20-over 304 and were led by Kaden Grooms with a 3-over 74. Mason Butler and Logan Shepherd each shot a 75. Grant Owens followed with an 80.
Nineteen teams competed in the tournament. St. Xavier won with a team score of 4-over 288. Only the top four teams advanced to team match play tomorrow.
The Royals have their first day off of the season on Thursday before playing in the Conner-Garrett Strong Invitational at The Willows Golf Course in Independence on Friday.

Royals are runners-up in Northern Kentucky Shootout
The Mason County Royals finished second in the Northern Kentucky Shootout today at Lassing Pointe Golf Course with a team score of 308, seven shots behind the Ryle Raiders.
Logan Shepherd shot a 1-over 71 and finished second in the individual tournament after a two-hole playoff. Mason Butler shot a 78 and Grant Owens and Kaden Grooms each shot a 79.
Royals win third straight tournament
The Mason County Royals won their third straight tournament on Monday, posting a team score of 297 in the Ashland Invitational at Bellefonte Country Club.
Logan Shepherd was the medalist with an even par 70 . Grant Owens finished second with a 72. Mason Butler followed with a 77. Kaden Grooms carded a 78 and Jake Feldhaus shot a 79. The best four scores make up the team score.
Mason County has had three sub-300 team scores in the first four tournaments of the season.
The Royals travel to Lassing Pointe in Northern Kentucky today for the Northern Kentucky Shootout.

Royals win the Mason County/St. Patrick Invitational for their second straight victory
The Mason County boys' golf team won the Mason County/St. Patrick Invitational today at Maysville Country Club. It's the Royals' second victory in as many days.
Mason County had a team score of 299 and was led by Mason Butler who was the individual runner-up with a 1-under 71. He was followed by Grant Owens with a 73, Logan Shepherd with a 75, Jake Feldhaus with an 80 and Quin Grooms with an 85.
Mason County won the Greenup County Classic (309) on Saturday after opening the season on Friday with a runner-up finish at the Rowan County Invitational (296).
The Royals will play in the Ashland Invitational at Bellefonte Country Club on Monday.

GRC rallies to defeat Mason County 64-58
The George Rogers Clark Cardinals rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat the Mason County Royals 64-58 in the semifinals of the 10th Region Tournament tonight at The Fieldhouse.
Mason County shot 58.3% from the field in the first half and led 36-26 at the half.
GRC outscored Mason County 18-4 in the third quarter and opened the fourth quarter on a 5-2 run to lead 49-42.
The Royals answered with a 9-2 run to tie the game at 51-51 with 2:55 left in the game.
The Cardinals scored six straight points to lead 57-51 with 1:45 remaining.
Mason County got to within three points twice in the final minute, but GRC answered both times.
The Cardinals outshot the Royals 70.8% to 34.6% in the second half.
Jerone Morton led GRC in scoring with 18 points. Jared Wellman had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Trent Edwards added 11 points.
Terrell Henry led Mason County with 18 points. Mason Butler followed with 12 points. Nate Mitchell tossed in 11 points and AP Perry added 10 points.
The loss snapped the Royals' 14-game winning streak. They end the season with a 19-4.
GRC advances to tomorrow night's championship game against the Campbell County Camels.

Liles, Shepherd, Butler and Littleton named to All-Region golf teams
Several area golfers have been named to the All-Region 12 teams by the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association.
Lewis County junior Logan Liles is the Region 12 Player of the Year. Other area golfers on the All-Region Team include: Mason County juniors Logan Shepherd and Mason Butler and Fleming County junior Logan Hughes.
Mason County sophomore Macey Littleton was named to the girls' All-Region Team.
