Dashawn Overly wins the KC's Joe Donovan Memorial River Run

Dashawn Overly won the Knights of Columbus Joe Donovan Memorial River Run for the second straight year on Friday morning in downtown Maysville.

Overly completed the 5K run in 16:40.

Morgan Carpenter was the top female finisher with a time of 24:29.

The 42nd Annual Knights of Columbus Joe Donovan Memorial River Run is a week away.

The event, which includes a 3.1-mile run and a two-mile walk, kicks off Maysville's Independence Day celebration at 8 a.m.

The race begins and ends on McDonald Parkway at Limestone Landing. The route goes westbound on McDonald Parkway, West Second Street and Kentucky 8. The turnaround is just west of Plugtown.

Trophies will be presented to the top 3 male and female participants overall in the 3.1-mile run and top 2 male and female walkers, medals to the top 3 male and female participants of each division in the 5K run, top 3 in the wheelchair division, and top 3 Big Man participants.   

All pre-registrants will receive a T-shirt (day of race registrants will receive a T-shirt as available).  The cost of the race is $25 for 18 and over, and $20 for under 18 years of age.  Make checks payable to Knights of Columbus.  Mail to:  Kelly Ashley, 508 E Second St, Maysville, KY  41056.

Buffalo Trace Stampede is June 14

The Buffalo Trace Stampede, a one-mile race in downtown Maysville, is just two weeks away.

The race will begin at 9 a.m. on June 14 at the Mason County Public Library and end at the Limestone Landing fountain.

The fee is $20 if you sign-up before 10 p.m. on June 13. If you wait until race day, the fee is $30.

There is a $150 cash award for any winning record-breaking performance in male and female under 40 divisions and over 40 divisions.

The times to beat are:

4:21 for male under 40

4:53 for male over 40

5:22 for female under 40

6:32 for female over 40

Proceeds will go to the Mason County Animal Shelter and Buffalo Trace Search and Rescue.

John Bess runs the Boston Marathon

John Bess of Maysville ran the Boston Marathon on Monday completing the 26.2 miles in 3:22:06.

Bess, an employee of Stober Drives, also ran the Boston Marathon in 2022. 

Bess completed the virtual Boston Marathon in 2020 running the 26.2 miles here in Maysville.

Derick Reynolds of Vincent, Ohio won the Two Bridge Run

10-Miler on Saturday in Maysville with a time of 1:05.35.

Last year's overall winner, Amirta Iyengar of Maysville, was the top female finisher on Saturday with a time of 1:08.37.

Jacob Faught of Georgetown, Ohio won the 5K (17:18) and Makayla Florence of Ripley was the top female finisher in the 5K (23:08).

Runners and walkers from six states and France competed in the races sponsored by Maysville Rotary Club.

Two Bridge Run is April 19

The Two Bridge Run, hosted by Maysville Rotary Club, is less than a month away. 

The 10-Miler and 5K Run/Walk are scheduled on Saturday, April 19 at 8 a.m.

The 10-Miler route includes both the Simon Kenton Memorial Bridge and the William Harsha Bridge.

Participants in the 5K Run/Walk will cross the Simon Kenton Memorial Bridge twice.

Awards will be given for 1st and 2nd in each age division as well as overall winners in male and female divisions. 

All 10-Miler finishers who register by April 1 will receive a custom medal. Every participant who signs up during the early registration period will receive a race shirt.

Deshawn Overly won the 41st Annual Knights of Columbus Joe Donovan Memorial River Run on Thursday in Maysville.

Bryant Curtis was second and Gabe Sammons finished third.

Louise Williams was the top female finisher followed by Sara Bransford and Roseanna Shannon.

The 41st Annual Knights of Columbus Joe Donovan Memorial River Run will take place on July 4 at 8 a.m. in Maysville.

The event, which begins on McDonald Parkway near Limestone Landing, features a 5K run and a two-mile walk.

Ethan Johnson wins the Buffalo Trace Stampede

Ethan Johnson of Tollesboro won the Buffalo Trace Stampede, a one-mile run in downtown Maysville, on Saturday with a time of 4:34.21.

Johnson, a graduate of Lewis County High School, is a rising sophomore at Campbellsville University where he is a member of the cross country team. 

Weston Blair of Winchester, Ohio was the runner-up (4:47.88) and Steven Buck of Lexington finished in third place (4:58.55).

Amrita Iyengar of Maysville was the top female finisher with a time of 5:22.37.

Kayla Lykins of Tollesboro was the second female finisher (5:32.78) followed by Brandy Shular of Winchester, Ohio (6:17.66).

Nathan Hauke of Winchester, Ohio was the male Masters winner (5:28.76) and Bridget Fay of Georgetown, Kentucky was the female Masters winner (6:47.55).

Proceeds from the race go to the Mason County Animal Shelter.

 Amrita Iyengar of Maysville won the Two Bridge Run 10-Miler on Saturday with a time of 1:05:07.

Kevin Simpson of Richmond was the top male finished with a time of 1:10:54.

Nathan Hauke of Winchester, OH won the 5K Run with a time of 20 minutes.

Makayla Florence of Ripley was the top female finisher with a time of 23:14.

The Two Bridge Run is a fundraiser for Maysville Rotary Club.

It's time for news and notes:

• Maysville native and former Bracken County boys' basketball coach Deron Breeze guided his Adair County Indians to the 5th Region championship on Sunday. The Indians lost to Taylor County in the championship game of the 20th District Tournament, but bounced back to beat Washington County, North Hardin and Bethlehem in the regional tournament. Adair County (28-7) will play 1st Region champion Marshall County (25-7) in the opening round of the UK Healthcare Boys Sweet 16 on March 20 at 6 p.m. Breeze's dad, Tony, played for Mason County in the 1970s.

• Former St. Patrick and Mason County assistant coach Tim Sullivan sends his Cooper Jaguars against the Newport Wildcats in the championship game of the 9th Region Tournament tonight. Newport beat Cooper 48-42 at Cooper on February 13. The Wildcats are riding a 23-game winning streak and have a 31-3 record. Cooper (24-8) has won seven straight games since losing to Newport.

• Former Mason County football and basketball player Chad Simms will be the principal at Pendleton County High School for the 2024-25 school year. Simms, a former boys' basketball coach and principal at Pendleton County, is the current assistant principal there. Simms returned to Pendleton County after working in the Boone County School District.

• The Two Bridge Run is just a little over six weeks away. The event offers a 10-Miler and a 5K run/walk on Saturday, April 27 in Maysville. Register online.

Registration for the Two Bridge Run 10-Miler and 5K Run/Walk is open with reduced entry fees now through January 5.

The races, hosted by Maysville Rotary Club, will take place on Saturday, April 27.

Bryant Curtis wins Joe Donovan Memorial River Run, Layla Henderson is female winner

Bryant Curtis won the 40th Annual Knights of Columbus Joe Donovan Memorial River Run this morning in Maysville.

Bryant completed the 5K course through downtown and the west end with a time of 18.14.

Layla Henderson was the female winner, crossing the finish line with a time of 20:45.

Two Bridge Run moving back to the spring

Maysville's Two Bridge Run is moving from Labor Day weekend to a spring date to be determined, although the tentative date is Saturday, April 24, 2024.

The event, which includes a 10-Miler and 5K, was originally held in the spring. Covid restrictions and repairs to the Simon Kenton Memorial Bridge forced organizers to move it to Labor Day weekend in 2021.

The decision to move the Two Bridge Run back to the spring was made recently and will allow the event to serve as a prep race for half marathons in the region.

40th Annual Knights of Columbus Joe Donovan Memorial River Run is July 4

The 40th Annual Knights of Columbus Joe Donovan Memorial River Run will kick off Maysville's Fourth of July Celebration.

The 5K run and two-mile walk begin at 8 a.m. on McDonald Parkway near the fountain at Limestone Landing.

Registration begins at 6:30 a.m.

The cost is $25 for age 18 and over, and $20 for under 18 years of age.

Colton O'Hara of Hamersville, Ohio was a three-peat winner of the Buffalo Trace Stampede 1-mile race and Sydney Larkin of Louisville was the female winner this morning in downtown Maysville. 

O'Hara and Larkin both set new records in the race which raised money for the Mason County Animal Shelter.

Buffalo Trace Stampede 2023

Buffalo Trace Stampede 2023, a one-mile run in downtown Maysville, takes place Saturday at 9 a.m. with proceeds going to the Mason County Animal Shelter.

It's billed as Kentucky's fastest road mile race.

The race begins at the Mason County Public Library at 218 East Second Street and ends at the Limestone Landing Fountain on McDonald Parkway.

A $150 cash award will be presented for any record breaking performance in the male and female under 40 or over 40 master's divisions.

The current records are 4:37 for male under 40, 5:32 for female under 40, 4:53 for male 40 and over, and 7:02 for female 40 and over.

The fee is $20 if you pre-register on or before June 16 or $30 on race day.

William Burns wins Two Bridge Run 10-Miler

William Burns of Falmouth won the Two Bridge Run 10-Miler sponsored by Maysville Rotary Club on Saturday morning with a time of 1:04:51. 

Jeremy Furnish of Wilmington, Ohio was second (1:06:19) and John Bess of Maysville was third (1:09:32)

The women's winner was Julia Swolsky of Mayslick with a time of 1:20:06. Alyssa Bisotti of Maysville was second (1:22:03) and Tiffany Baker of Nicholasville was third (1:24:39).

Nathan Hauke of Winchester, Ohio was the winner of the 5K (18:39). Brittaney Kirschner of Amelia, Ohio was the women's winner of the 5K (24.56).
