News and notes

It's time for news and notes:

  • Maysville native and former Bracken County boys' basketball coach Deron Breeze guided his Adair County Indians to the 5th Region championship on Sunday. The Indians lost to Taylor County in the championship game of the 20th District Tournament, but bounced back to beat Washington County, North Hardin and Bethlehem in the regional tournament. Adair County (28-7) will play 1st Region champion Marshall County (25-7) in the opening round of the UK Healthcare Boys Sweet 16 on March 20 at 6 p.m. Breeze's dad, Tony, played for Mason County in the 1970s.

  • Former St. Patrick and Mason County assistant coach Tim Sullivan sends his Cooper Jaguars against the Newport Wildcats in the championship game of the 9th Region Tournament tonight. Newport beat Cooper 48-42 at Cooper on February 13. The Wildcats are riding a 23-game winning streak and have a 31-3 record. Cooper (24-8) has won seven straight games since losing to Newport.

  • Former Mason County football and basketball player Chad Simms will be the principal at Pendleton County High School for the 2024-25 school year. Simms, a former boys' basketball coach and principal at Pendleton County, is the current assistant principal there. Simms returned to Pendleton County after working in the Boone County School District.

  • The Two Bridge Run is just a little over six weeks away. The event offers a 10-Miler and a 5K run/walk on Saturday, April 27 in Maysville. Register online.
