Royals rank high in Class 4A football stats report

The Mason County Royals rank high in several categories in the latest Class 4A statistics report from the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.

The Royals are No. 1 in team interceptions (13), No. 4 in passing defense (54 yards per game), No. 5 in team passing (240 yards per game), No. 6 in team defense (11.2 points allowed per game), No. 6 in rushing defense (91 yards per game), No. 6 in scoring margin (25.3 points per game), No. 10 in fumbles forced (5) and No. 11 in team scoring (36.5 points per game).

Bryce Moran leads Class 4A in interceptions (4), Cole Horch is No. 4 in receiving (82 yards per game) and Teegin Routt is No. 5 in passing (200 yards per game).

Royals rout Montgomery County 44-16

Teegin Routt passed for 210 yards and four touchdowns as the Mason County Royals routed the Montgomery County Indians 44-16 on Friday night in Mt. Sterling.

Bryce Moran rushed for two touchdowns, had a touchdown reception and a conversion run.

Mason County (2-0) led 23-0 and 44-6 and finished with 342 yards of total offense.

The Royals will travel to Flemingsburg next week to play the Fleming County Panthers.

Royals beat Russell 21-12 in season opener

After trailing 6-0, the Mason County Royals scored 21 straight points on their way to 21-12 season-opening victory over the Russell Red Devils at home on Friday night.

Teegin Routt threw touchdown passes to Cole Horch and Ashayne Jones. Izley Morales ran two yards for a touchdown.

Mason County won the turnover battle 3-1 on interceptions by Micah Payne, Bryce Moran and Nazir Metts.

The Royals will travel to Mt. Sterling next week to play the Montgomery County Indians.

Eight Royals scored a touchdown in Mason County's 52-0 victory over Holmes

Eight different players scored a touchdown as the Mason County Royals opened district play with a 52-0 victory over the Holmes Bulldogs in Covington Friday night.

Bryce Moran, CJ Arthur, Trey Walker, Kenton Johson and Keshaun Thomas each rushed for a touchdown in the first half.

Teegin Routt threw a touchdown pass to Cole Horch in the third quarter.

Micah Payne ran for a touchdown at the end of the third quarter and Hayden Horn rushed for the final touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Mason County had 401 yards of total offense (278 rushing and 123 passing).

Holmes only had 97 yards of offense, all rushing.

The final 16:47 was played with a running clock.

With 26 victories, Joe Wynn the second winningest coach at Mason County.

The Royals (4-2) will try to Cynthiana next week to play the Harrison County Thorobreds.

Royals shutout Vikings 27-0

Trey Walker rushed for two touchdowns and Bryce Moran had two interceptions, including a pick-six, to help the Mason County Royals shutout the Rowan County Vikings 27-0 in Morehead Friday night.

Walker ran three yards for a touchdown on the third play of the game. That was the only score of the first half.

Walker ran nine yards for a touchdown on the Royals' first drive of the second half.

In the fourth quarter, Moran returned an interception 39 yards for touchdown and MeCaiyon Jackson had a one-yard touchdown run.

The Royals held Rowan County to 104 yards of total offense.

Mason County is off next week before beginning district play September 29 vs. the Holmes Bulldogs.
