Royals beat Fleming County 36-20

Camden Gregory completed 7 of 10 passes for 203 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for another touchdown as the Mason County Royals gave coach Bradley Boone his first win by beating the Fleming County Panthers 36-20 on Friday night at Mason County.

Gregory threw two touchdown passes to Micah Payne and one to Macen Grooms.

Payne had four receptions for 135 yards and two touchdowns.

Joey Staggs rushed for 82 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries.

The Royals had no turnovers after committing a total of nine turnovers in their first two games.

Mason County (1-2) will host the Boyd County Lions next week on Homecoming.

Fleming County (2-1) will play at Rowan County next week.

Royals fall to Montgomery County 25-18

For the second straight game the Mason County Royals were doomed by turnovers.

Five turnovers on Friday night resulted in a 25-18 loss to the Montgomery County Indians in the Royals' home opener.

One of the turnovers was on the Montgomery County two yard line. 

Two of the Indians' touchdowns were scored by the defense.

Joey Staggs rushed for two Mason County touchdowns. Leonard Avery also rushed for a touchdown for the Royals.

Mason County (0-2) will host the Fleming County Panthers next week.

Bracken County beats Mason County 35-21

Daulton Tarter rushed for 148 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Bracken County Polar Bears to a 35-21 win over the Mason County Royals on Friday night in Brooksville.

It was the first meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.

Mason County fell behind 21-0, but rallied to within seven points at 28-21 with 4:59 left in the game. The Royals got the ball back with 4:03 remaining but committed their fourth turnover and Bracken County tacked on a touchdown with 1:20 to play.

Mason County had two big scoring playsa 73-yard run by Joey Staggs and a 67-yard pass from Camden Gregory to Micah Payne.

Staggs rushed for 103 yards. Gregory completed 12 of 21 passes for 160 yards.

Mason County will host Montgomery County next week while Bracken County will travel to Holy Cross.

Royals rout Greenup County 56-21

Teegin Routt passed for 238 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for two touchdowns and Joey Staggs ran for 126 yards and two touchdowns as the Mason County Royals routed the Greenup County Musketeers 56-21 in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs on Friday night at Mason County.

The Royals defense forced four turnovers.

Mason County outscored Greenup County 42-7 in the second half.

Routt threw touchdown passes to Jamarion Bluford, Ashayne Jones and Garryon McClain.

Jones also had an interception and a fumble recovery.

Micah Payne and Cole Horch each had an interception.

Hayden Horn's touchdown run and Staggs' conversion run started the running clock with 5:28 left in the game.

Greenup County quarterback Tyson Sammons rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 188 yards as the Musketeers ended the season with an 8-3 record.

Mason County (8-3) will travel to Ashland next week to play the Ashland Tomcats who were 47-7 winners over Harrison County on Friday night.

Royals run winning streak to four games with a 35-6 road win over Grant County

Joey Staggs rushed for 79 yards and two touchdowns and Teegin Routt passed for 173 yards and two touchdowns as the Mason County Royals ran their winning streak to a season-high four games with a 35-6 victory over the Grant County Braves on Thursday night in Dry Ridge.

On the third play of the game, Staggs ran 63 yards for a touchdown. Just over four minutes later, Staggs ran 10 yards for a touchdown.

Routt threw two touchdown passes to Jamarion Bluford in the second quarter.

Hayden Horn had a one-yard touchdown run and a conversion run with 3:04 left in the third quarter and the rest of the game was played with a running clock.

Mason County is 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the district. The Royals will close out district play next week vs. Covington Catholic in Park Hills.

Royals shutout Harrison County 35-0

Teegin Routt passed for 117 yards and two touchdowns and Joey Staggs rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns as the Mason County Royals ran their winning streak to three games and their district record to 2-0 with a 35-0 victory over the Harrison County Thorobreds on Friday night at Mason County.

After a scoreless first quarter, Mason County scored 21 points in the second quarter and 14 points in the third quarter.'

The final 13:07 was played with a running clock.

Hayden Horn scored the first touchdown on a four-yard run.

Cole Horch had two touchdown receptions.

Mason County (6-1) will play the Grant County Braves in Dry Ridge on Thursday night.

Royals open district play with a 60-0 win over Holmes on Homecoming

Teegin Routt passed for 162 yards and four touchdowns as the Mason County Royals opened district play and celebrated Homecoming with a 60-0 victory over the Holmes Bulldogs on Friday night.

The Royals led 34-0 in the first quarter and 48-0 at the half.

Routt threw two touchdown passes to Garryon McClain and one to Jamarion Bluford in the first quarter and another to Cole Horch in the second quarter.

Routt had 128 passing yards in the opening quarter.

Joey Staggs, Braylon Likins and Marquis Bluford each rushed for a touchdown.

Hayden Horn stripped the ball from a Holmes ball carrier and raced 30 yards for a touchdown.

Sophomore quarterback Camden Gregory threw a touchdown pass to Dalton Campbell.

Mason County (5-1) will host the Harrison County Thorobreds next week.

Routt throws five TD passes and the Royals rout Rowan County 40-16

Teegin Routt passed for 263 passing yards and five touchdowns and the Mason County Royals routed the Rowan County Vikings 40-16 on Friday night at Mason County.

Routt passed for 205 yards and four touchdowns in the first quarter.

He threw three touchdown passes to Cole Horch and two touchdown passes to Garryon McClain. 

Joey Staggs rushed for a touchdown.

The Royals led 33-0 at the end of the first quarter and 40-7 at halftime.

Mason County heads into its bye week with a 4-1 record. The Royals will host the Holmes Bulldogs on Homecoming on October 4.

Royals beat Fleming County for third straight victory

The Mason County Royals outscored the Fleming County Panthers 40-6 in the second half and ran their record to 3-0 with a 54-20 victory on Saturday in Flemingsburg.

Hayden Horn ran four yards for a touchdown on the Royals' first drive of the game and were up 14-2 with 4:34 left in the second quarter after Teegin Routt threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to Cole Horch.

Fleming County (0-3) tied the game with back-to-back touchdowns in the final 3:32 of the first half.

Mason County regained control of the game by scoring touchdowns on its first two possessions of the third quarter on a 20-yard pass from Routt to Garryon McClain and a three-yard run by Joey Staggs.

The Royals added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter. K'vaughn Young recovered a fumble in the end zone and Routt threw a 43-yard TD pass to Lennie Avery.

The Panthers stopped Mason County's 26-0 run by scoring a touchdown with 6:09 remaining in the game.

The Royals added to the cushion when Routt hit Horch on a 21-yard touchdown pass and Avery returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown.

Routt completed 15 of 26 passes for 333 yards and four touchdowns. Horch had five receptions for 140 yards and two touchdowns.

Mason County will play its third straight road game on Friday at Boyd County.

Royals beat beat Montgomery County 34-14

Cole Horch returned the opening kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown and the Mason County Royals scored 20 unanswered points in the second half for a 34-14 victory over the Montgomery County Indians in the Meadowview Regional Medical Center Kickoff Classic Friday night.

The start of the game was delayed 15 minutes by lightning and there was a 30-minute lightning delay in the first quarter.

With senior quarterback Keshaun Thomas out with an injury, Teggin Routt filled in and threw touchdown passes to Max Arrasmith and Landon Scilley.

Kenton Johnson rushed for a touchdown and Joey Staggs returned a fumble 93 yards for a touchdown.

Mason County (1-1) will host Fleming County next week.
