Cole Horch returned the opening kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown and the Mason County Royals scored 20 unanswered points in the second half for a 34-14 victory over the Montgomery County Indians in the Meadowview Regional Medical Center Kickoff Classic Friday night.
The start of the game was delayed 15 minutes by lightning and there was a 30-minute lightning delay in the first quarter.
With senior quarterback Keshaun Thomas out with an injury, Teggin Routt filled in and threw touchdown passes to Max Arrasmith and Landon Scilley.
Kenton Johnson rushed for a touchdown and Joey Staggs returned a fumble 93 yards for a touchdown.
Mason County (1-1) will host Fleming County next week.
