Lady Royals open indoor track and field season with a win

The Mason County Lady Royals won the season-opening indoor track and field meet Saturday at the Mason County Schools Indoor Athletic Complex.

The Lady Royals racked up 141 points. St. Henry finished second with 134 points. 

Bishop Brossart won the boys' team title. The Mason County Royals finished in fourth place.

Mason County sophomore AJ Barrett broke his own school record in the pole vault. He cleared 10-09.00 to win the event. 

Mason County sophomore Layla Henderson set a new school by winning the girls' 3000 meter run with a time of 11:30.70. 

Henderson teamed with Hayden Faris, Elizabeth Lavinder and Paige Decker to win the girls' 4x800 relay with a time of (10:46.47)

Other first place finishes by Mason County athletes include:

• Karis Applegate in the girls' 55 meter dash (7.54)
• Alix Flinders in the boys' 400 meter dash (56.64)
• The boys' 4x400 meter relay team of Asher Braughton, Johnny Jones, Colton Riggs and Alix Flinders (3:59.20).

11 Mason County XC runners named to KTCCCA Academic All-State Team

Mason County cross country runners have been named to the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Academic All-State Team.
Deshawn Overly, Alyssa Bisotti, Morgan Carpenter, Alexis Decker, Paige Decker, Hayden Faris, Layla Henderson, Elizabeth Lavinder, Hadley Maher, Rachel Payne and Kendra Shoemaker met both the academic athletic requirements for the all-state recognition.

Mason County indoor track and field team set four new school records on Saturday

The Mason County indoor track and field team set four school records at the season-opening Wildcat Classic at the University of Kentucky on Saturday.

The record setters include:

• Paige Decker in the mile run (5:30.03) and the 800 meter run (2:31.40).

• Elizabeth Lavinder in the two-mile run (12:39.47).

• The girls' 4x800 meter relay team of Alyssa Bisotti, Hayden Faris, Layla Henderson and Paige Decker (10:36.98).

Lady Royals win Area 7 Championship

The Mason County Lady Royals cross country team won the Area 7 Championship today at Boyd County.

Mason County's 40 points topped the nine-team girls' field. The second place team, Morgan County, had 93 points.

Eighth grader Paige Decker led Mason County with a second place finish in a time of 20:02.10.

Four other Lady Royals finished in the top 20- freshman Alyssa Bisotti 9th (21:35.28), Hayden Faris 13th (22:34.50), freshman Kylee Howe 17th (23:18.53) and 8th grader Morgan Carpenter 18th (23:21.75).

Bracken County seniors Brandon Cox and Jared Jefferson finished 1-2 in the boys' race to lead the Polar Bears to third place in the team standings.

With a time of 17:03.26, Cox edged Jefferson by just over 11 seconds.

Mason County junior Isaiah Riggs took ninth place (18:18.81) and Mason County sophomore Carson Adams finished in 14th place (18:34.70) to lead the Royals to a 7th place finish.

Boyd County won the boys' team championship.

Lady Royals XC team opens the season with a win

The Mason County Lady Royals opened the cross country season with a win at the Bourbon County Invitational this morning.

Mason County 8th grader Paige Decker was the individual champion with a personal record time of 19:51.19.

Two other Mason County runners finished in the top 10- freshman Alyssa Bisotti 9th (21:45.61) and 8th grader Elizabeth Lavinder 10th (21:46.11).

Mason County sophomore Hayden Faris took 11th place (21:48.83).

The Mason County Royals finished in 11th place and were led by junior Isaiah Riggs in 17th place (18:35.31).

Bracken County senior Brandon Cox was the runner-up (17:19.81) and lead the Polar Bears to a 7th place finish.

Bracken County senior Jared Jefferson took 6th place (17:35.35).

Lady Royals 14th, Royals 19th at Meet of Champions

The Mason County Lady Royals took 14th place and the Mason County Royals finished in 19th place in the Meet of Champions cross country meets Saturday at Masterson Station Park in Lexington Saturday.

Freshman Hayden Faris led the Lady Royals with a 23rd place finish in 21:13.66.

Sophomore Connor Linville led the Royals with a 33rd place finish in 17.12.79.

St. Patrick junior Paco Franco finished 77th in 18:00.77.

The Mason County Middle School girls team took fifth place in the middle school meet. That's the highest finish at the middle school level in school history.

The Mason County girls and the Bracken County boys won the Buffalo Trace Conference cross country meets tonight at Mason County.

Mason County had the top four runners in the girls race with freshman Hayden Faris leading the way in 20:49.

Bracken County junior Jared Jefferson won the boys race in 16:18.

The top seven finishers in each race are first-team all-conference.

Lady Royals 4th in Greater Louisville Classic

The Mason County Lady Royals cross country team finished fourth in the Greater Louisville Classic Saturday.

There were 51 teams and 356 runners in the girls varsity race.

The Lady Royals had five runners in the top 100 with eighth grader Alyssa Bisotti leading the way with a 43rd place finish in 20:45.81.

Seventh grader Paige Decker was 50th in 20:59.17. 

Freshman Hayden Faris was 68th in 21:20.61. 

Eighth grader Kylee Howe was 87th in 21:35.39.

Seventh grader Elizabeth Lavinder was 91st 21:38.59. 

Mason County was 44th in the boys varsity race. Connor Linville was the Royals' top runner in 73rd place in 17:28.46.

Lady Royals win Mason County XC Invitational,

The Mason County Lady Royals cross country team won the Mason County Invitational Saturday.

The Lady Royals edged the Bishop Brossart Lady 'Stangs 106-111. Eighteen schools competed in the girls race.

Seventh grader Paige Decker led the Lady Royals with a 10th place finish in 20:32.

Rounding out the scoring for Mason County were freshman Hayden Faris in 18th place (20:55.40),

eighth graders Kylee Howe 25th (21:21.60) and Alyssa Bisotti 26th (21:25.50) and seventh grader Elizabeth Lavinder 33rd (21:57.20).

Morgan County junior Kailee Perry won the girls race in 18:58.1.

Bracken County junior Jared Jefferson won the boys in 16:16.2.

Fairfield-Leesburg won the boys team title by 32 points.

Bracken County finished in sixth place and Mason County took 10th place.

Sophomore Conner Linville was Mason County's top runner with a sixth place finish (16:48.4).

Bracken County junior Brandon Cox took seventh place (16:52.9).

St. Patrick eighth grader Allison Hughes won the mixed 5K junior varsity race in 22:24.4.

Lady Royals, Royals, Faris and Linville winners at Ripley XC Invitational

The Mason County girls and boys cross country teams swept the team titles and Mason County freshman Hayden Faris and Mason County sophomore Connor Linville won the individual races Saturday at the Ripley Invitational.

The Lady Royals won by 21 points over Georgetown, and the Royals bested Felicity by 18 points.

Faris won the girls' race in a time of 21:52.00. 

Mason County junior Olivia O'Hearn took ninth place (23:46.00)

Connor Linville was the boys' winner with of a time of 17:33.00. 

Another Mason County sophomore- Isaiah Riggs- finished second (17:54.00)

Mason County freshman Carson Adams had a ninth place finish (18:40.00).

Mason County girls 2nd, boys 4th in XC season opener

The Mason County Lady Royals started the cross country season Saturday with a runner-up finish in the Bourbon County Colonel Opener.

The Mason County Royals took fourth place.

Freshman Hayden Faris led the Lady Royals with a fourth place finish (20:32:30). Seventh grader Paige Decker took seventh place (20:43.30). 

Sophomore Connor Linville led the Royals with a third place finish (16:55.10).

Lady Royals set three new indoor track and field records

Three Mason County indoor track and field records were set Saturday at the Wildcat Classic at the University of Kentucky.

Hayden Faris set the new record for the two-mile run with a time of 13:01.25.

Rheagan Sizemore set the new record in the 400 meters with a time of 1:04.80 and broke her own record in the pole vault clearing 8 feet, 6 inches.

Bracken Co. boys 5th, Mason Co. girls 16th, Bracken Co. girls 19th in state XC meets

The Bracken County Polar Bears took fifth place in the boys Class A state cross country meet, the Mason County Lady Royals finished 16th in the girls Class 2A meet and the Bracken County Lady Bears were 19th in the girls Class A meet at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington Saturday.

Bracken County junior Jacob Hamilton finished in fifth place (16:31.14).

Bracken County sophomore Jared Jefferson took 11th place (16:56.10).

The Mason County Lady Royals were led by 8th grader Hayden Faris in 57th place (21:30.60)

Sophomore Heather Ebert was the Bracken County Lady Bears' top runner. She took 86th place (22:46.02).

Lady Royals qualify for state XC meet with a 3rd place finish in region

The Mason County Lady Royals qualified for the Class 2A state cross country meet with a third place finish in the Region 6 meet Saturday at Boyd County.

The Ashland Kittens won the region by two points over the Russell Lady Red Devils. Mason County finished 12 points behind Ashland. 

Mason County was led by 8th grader Hayden Faris with an 8th place finish in a time of 21:11.14.

Three other Mason County runners finished in the Top 20- Rheagan Sizemore (14th), Kylee Howe (16th) and Nichole Caba (17th).

Fleming County senior Olivia Leet took 6th place with a time of 20:47.51 and qualified for the state meet.

Mason County freshmen Connor Linville and Isaiah Riggs and Fleming County junior Robert Applegate are individual qualifiers for the state meet. Linville took 8th place in a time of 18:00.55.

The state meet is Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The boys Class 2A meet starts at 11:30 a.m. followed by the girls Class 2A meet at 12:15 p.m.

Lady Royals win Boyd Co. XC Invitational, Rheagan Sizmore individual champion

The Mason County Lady Royals cross country team won the Boyd County Invitational Saturday, and Mason County senior Rheagan Sizemore won the individual championship with a time of 21:22.87.

Mason County eighth grader Hayden Faris finished in fourth place with a time of 21:44.28.

Fleming County senior Olivia Leet took sixth place with a time of 22:08.76.

Boyd County won the boys meet. Mason County finished in sixth place and was led by two freshmen- Connor Linville in third place (18:07.61) and Isaiah Riggs in fifth place (18:30.83).

Boyd County will host the Area Championship on October 15. 

Lexington Christian boys and girls sweep Mason County All Comers XC meet

The Lexington Christian boys and girls cross country teams swept the Mason County All Comers meet Tuesday night.

The Mason County girls were the runners-up. The Mason County boys took third place.

The Lexington Christian boys are ranked No.1 in Class A, the girls team is No. 2.

Lexington Christian had the top three finishers in the boys race- Adam Huff  (16:52), Andrew Madden (17:04) and Connor Hayes  (17:08).

Manchester junior Ethan Pennywitt took fourth place (17:25) and Fleming County junior Robert Applegate was fifth (18:07).

Mason County was led by freshman Connor Linville in ninth place (18:38).

Lexington Christian sophomore Kendall Hayes won the girls race (19:35), Bourbon County eighth grader Ximena Tamariz was second (21:06) and Fleming County senior Olivia Leet was third (21:49).

Eighth grader Hayden Faris led Mason County with an eighth place finish (23:40).

Mason Co. girls and boys team finish 2nd in state indoor track and field meets; Garrison and Stanley are state champions

The Mason County girls and boys teams both finished second in the KTCCCA state indoor track and field meets Saturday at the Carmeuse Complex.

Rockcastle County won the girls Class AA meet with 116 points. The Mason County Lady Royals had 93 points.

Waggener is the boys Class AA champion with 107 points. The Mason County Royals, the state champions the past two years, had 82 points.

Fleming County took seventh place in both the girls and boys Class AA meets.

It's the second straight year the Mason County girls have been the state runner-up. In the past four years the Mason County boys have finished 2nd, 1st, 1st and 2nd.

In an email message, Mason County coach Mark Kachler said "Very solid 4 year run for the guys. I am very proud of all their efforts."

Mason County senior Brendon Garrison is the state champion in the 55 meter hurdles (8.66) and the triple jump (40-10.50) and is the runner-up in the long jump (19-03.00).

Mason County senior Jay Stanley is the state champion in the shot put (46-11). He was the state champion in the shot put in the outdoor meet last year.

Several other Mason County athletes had runner-up finishes:

• Rheagan Sizmore in the girls 1600 meter run (5.58.33) and the girls pole vault (8-00.00)
• Hayden Faris in the girls 3000 meter run 12:39.98)
• Isaiah Riggs in the boys 3000 meter run (10:58.20)
• Marissa Scilley in the girls long jump (15-02.25) and the girls triple jump (32.02.50)
• Jordan Frodge in the girls high jump (4-10.00)
• Jesse Morgan, Bryce Johnson, Zach Walters and Seth Bickley in the boys 4x400 meter relay (4:00.00)

Fleming County's Kaleb Flannery was the runner-up in the boys high jump (5-08-00.)

Mason County Girls are Back-To-Back XC Region Champions

The Mason County girls cross country team won the Region 6 championship for the second straight year. The Lady Royals edged Russell by three points today at Masterson Station Park in Lexington.

Mason County was led by junior Rheagan Sizemore with a fifth place finish in a time of 20:42.42.

Three other Mason County runners finished in the top 20: seventh grader Hayden Faris was 11th (21:42.57), sophomore Reagan Bierley was 16th (22:16.74) and freshman Abigail Dawson was 18th (22:34.47), 

Fleming County junior Olivia Leet, the region champion the last two years, finished third with a time of 20:10.50. Fleming County took fourth place. 

In the boys race, Mason County finished fourth and Fleming County seventh. Mason County was led by senior Tanner Kirkland in 14th place (18:38.33) and eighth grader Connor Linville in 19th place (18:49.94). Fleming County sophomore Robert Applegate took 12th place (18:16.35).

Mason County Girls, Boyd County Boys Win Area 7 Championships

The Mason County girls and the Boyd County boys cross country teams won the Area 7 Championships today in Elliott County.

Mason County won the girls championship by six points over Montgomery County and Fleming County. Boyd County won the boys title by seven points over Russell.

Nicholas County senior Shelby Watkins won the girls race with a time of 18:23. 

Three Mason County runners finished in the top 20- junior Rheagan Sizemore 10th (20:16), freshman Abigail Dawson 16th (21:03) and seventh grader Hayden Faris 17th (21:03.80).  

Fleming County also had three runners in the top 20- junior Olivia Leet 3rd (19:13), senior Julie Perkins 14th (20:42) and senior Abby Fearin 19th (21:37).

Boyd County freshman Elijah Miller won the boys race with a time of 16:09. 

Mason County senior Tanner Kirkland was 13th (17:41) and St. Patrick freshman Paco Franco was 19th (18:12).

The Mason County girls cross country team took second place in Rowan County's Roy Wright Invitational Saturday. The Lady Royals were led by junior Rheagan Sizemore who finished fourth in a time of 20:53.70.

Four other Lady Royals finished in the top 20- freshman Abigail Dawson was 14th (22:24.90), seventh grader Hayden Faris was 15th (22:33.08), freshman Chloe Adams was 17th (22:53.40) and sophomore Reagan Bierley was 20th (23:01.90).

The Augusta Panthers finished in sixth place in the boys race and were led by senior Camyrn Snapp with a second place finish in a time of 17:49.40.  Fleming County sophomore Robert Applegate was 13th (18:57.80), Augusta sophomore David Reed was 16th (19:10.60) and St. Patrick freshman Paco Franco was 19th (19:16.50).
