Mason County tennis players lose in the opening round of the state tennis tournament

Mason County's state qualifiers all lost in the opening round of the KHSAA Tennis State Championships presented by UK HealthCare on Tuesday in Lexington.

In boys' singles, Evan Smith lost 1-6, 5-7. In boys' doubles, Sam Clarke and Alex Wood lost 3-6, 3-6, and in girls' doubles, Bailey Boone and Eden Abshire lost 1-6, 6-4, 0-1 (6-10).

Tennis State Championships brackets published

The brackets for the KHSAA Tennis Championships presented by UK HealthCare have been published.

Here are the matchups for the Mason County players:

Boys Singles 

Evan Smith vs. Cooper Ostermeier of Southwestern, Tuesday at 8 a.m. at the Sayre Athletic Complex.

Boys Doubles

Sam Clarke and Alex Wood vs. Vincente Garcia and Alexios Cornwell of North Hardin, Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. at Lexington Christian Academy.

Girls Doubles

Bailey Boone and Eden Abshire vs. Gabrielle Browning and Hope Dupin of Simon Kenton, Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the University of Kentucky.

Tickets for the tournament are available online only at https://gofan.co/app/school/KHSAA . Tickets purchased before the day of the event are $15. Game day tickets will cost $18 per day. Tickets purchased for the first day of the tournament will be valid at all sites.

Mason County tennis players lose to GRC in region semis, advance to state

Mason County tennis players who advanced to the semifinals of the regional tournaments were defeated by George Rogers Clark players on Thursday. 

Evan Smith lost his singles match 6-2, 5-7, 14-16.

In doubles, Alex Wood and Sam Clarke lost 4-6, 2-6, and Bailey Boone and Eden Abshire lost 2-6, 1-6.

All of the semifinalists have qualified for the state tournament.

Five Mason County players advance in regional tournaments, three suffer losses

Five Mason County tennis players punched their tickets to the state tournament by advancing to the semifinals of the regional tournaments with wins while three players were eliminated on Wednesday. 

No. 2 seed Evan Smith won his quarterfinal singles match 6-0, 6-1.

The girls' doubles teams of Bailey Boone and Eden Abshire and the boys' doubles team of Sam Clarke and Alex Wood also advanced to the semifinals.

Boone and Abshire won 6-1, 7-5 while Clark and Wood pulled out a 6-1, 4-6, 10-5 victory.

Three singles players suffered losses. Tori Lavinder lost 6-4, 4-6, 7-10, Juan Carlos fell 3-6, 1-6 and Ellen Clarke lost 6-7, 2-6.

Smith and Carlos advance in 10th Region boys' tennis tournament

Mason County seniors Evan Smith and Juan Carlos advanced to the quarterfinals of the 10th Region boys' singles tennis tournament at Boubon County with victories in the Round of 16 matches on Tuesday.

Smith, the No. 2 seed, cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory and Carlos won his match 6-1, 4-6, 10-8 (1-0).

Several Mason County players advance in girls' 10th Region tennis tournament

The girls' 10th Region tennis tournament got underway on Monday with several Mason County players posting victories.

In singles matches, No. 3 seed Tori Lavinder won 6-0, 6-1 in the Round of 16 and Ellen Clarke won 6-1, 6-1 in the Round of 32 and 6-0, 6-0 in the Round of 16. 

In doubles, Olivia Jackson and Annabel Jackson advanced with a 6-0,6-0 victory in the Round of 32 and No. 3 seed Bailey Boone and Eden Abshire were 6-2, 6-4 winners in the Round of 16.

Royals lose to GRC in tennis team region semis; seeds announced for singles and doubles tournament

The Mason County Royals lost to the George Rogers Clark Cardinals 3-0 in the 10th Region tennis team tournament on Saturday at Bourbon County.

The individual and doubles region tournaments start on Monday.

According to Coach Clay Boone for the first time in program history, Mason County has seeded players in all girls' and boys' events.

No. 2 boys' singles, Evan Smith

No. 3 girls' singles, Tori Lavinder

No. 3 girls' doubles, Bailey Boone and Eden Abshire

No. 4 boys' doubles, Sam Clark and Alex Wood

Royals beat Montgomery County in region team tennis tournament

The Mason County Royals beat the Montgomery County Indians 3-0 in the quarterfinal round of the 10th Region tennis team tournament on Friday. 

The Royals will play the George Rogers Clark Cardinals in the semifinals on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. at Bourbon County.

Mason County tennis teams celebrate Senior Night with wins over Nicholas County

The Mason County girls' and boys' tennis teams celebrated Senior Night on Monday with victories over Nicholas County.

The Lady Royals beat the Lady Jackets  4-1 and the Royals swept the Bluejackets 5-0.

The Region 10 girls' and boys' tournaments begin on Friday at Bourbon County and Harrison County.

Matches will be played this Friday and on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of next week.

Mason County girls' and boys' tennis teams split with GRC

The Mason County girls' and boys' tennis teams split matches with George Rogers Clark on Saturday.

Olivia Jackson won a third set tiebreaker 10-8 to give the Lady Royals a 3-2 win.

GRC won the boys' match 3-2.

Mason County will travel to Paris on Monday to play Bourbon County.

Mason County tennis teams sweep Harrison County

The Mason County girls' and boys' tennis teams swept Harrison County in home matches on Wednesday.

Both Mason County squads won 4-1. 

Friday's match vs. Rowan County is canceled. Coach Clay Boone is trying to schedule another match.

Mason County tennis will host the Roger Hendrickson Memorial Showcase today

The Mason County tennis program will host the Roger Hendrickson Memorial Showcase today at the new tennis facility across the street from the Mason County baseball field and Straub Elementary School.

"Really excited to honor Roger as he gave so much time & committment to this community," Mason County tennis coach Clay Boone wrote in a post on X.

The Royals will scrimmage Bracken County.

Boone and Lavinder go 1-1 in state tennis tournament, Smith goes 0-1

Mason County's girls' doubles team of Bailey Boone and Tori Lavinder won in the Round of 64, but lost in the Round of 32 at the KHSAA Tennis State Championships presented by UK Healthcare on Tuesday.

Boone and Lavinder defeated Montgomery County 7-5, 6-2 before falling to Assumption 0-6, 0-6. 

Mason County junior Evan Smith lost 0-6, 0-6 in the Round of 64.

Local tennis teams lose in 10th Region team tournaments

The four local teams were eliminated from the 10th Region team tournaments in their first matches.

The Mason County girls' and boys' tennis teams both lost 3-2 in the quarterfinal round.

The Lady Royals lost to Montgomery County while the Royals fell to Campbell County. Both were decided by a third set match tiebreak.

The St. Patrick Saints lost to Pendleton County Lady Wildcats 3-0 in the Round of 16.

The St. Patrick Lady Saints fell to Harrison County 3-0 in the Play-in Round.

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association this year revived the team regional tournaments which are separate from the individual and doubles tournaments.

Evan Smith qualifies for state tennis tourney

Mason County junior Evan Smith qualified for the state tennis tournament.

Smith, the No. 3 seed, advanced to the semifinals of the 10th Region Tournament where he lost to eventual champion Noah Earlywine of Bourbon County 0-6, 0-6 on Saturday.

Smith won 6-0, 6-0 in the Round of 16 and 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

All semifinalists qualify for the state tournament.

Boone and Lavinder lose to GRC doubles team

Bailey Boone and Tori Lavinder lost to Cassie Lowe and Madelyn Settles of George Rogers Clark 1-6, 0-6 in the girls' doubles region championship match on Monday at Campbell County High School.

Boone and Lavinder have qualified for the state tournament.

Boone and Lavinder qualify for state, will play for region chmpionship

The Mason County girls' doubles team of Bailey Boone and Tori Lavinder have quaified for the state tennis tournament and will play for a region championship on Monday.

Bailey and Lavinder, seeded No. 2 in the 10th Region Tournament, defeated Calvary Christian 6-0, 6-0 in their opening match on Friday.

In the quarterfinal round on Saturday, Bailey and Lavinder beat Campbell County 6-0, 6-1 to qualify for the state tournament, and then later on Saturday they won their semifinal match vs. Montgomery County 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the region championship match on Monday at 5:30 vs. George Rogers Clark.

The Mason County girls' and boys' tennis teams both went 2-0 in the opening week of the season with victories over Holy Cross and Nicholas County.

Bailey and Lavinder lose in opening round of state tennis tournament

The Mason County girls' doubles tennis team of Bailey Boone and Tori Lavinder lost 6-2, 6-0 in the opening round of the KHSAA State Championships presented by UK HealthCare this morning.

Boone and Lavinder, who completed their sophomore seasons, were the 10th Region runners-up.
