Royals lose to Rowan County 10-9

The Mason County Lady Royals gave up five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and lost to the Rowan County Lady Vikings 10-9 Thursday.

Kennadi Kirk went 2-for-5 with a double and four RBI for Mason County.

Kenzie Gulley went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs scored and one RBI,

The Lady Royals (19-16) close out the regular season today at 6 p.m. vs. the Nicholas County Lady Jackets.

Lady Royals rout Paris 15-2 in six innings

Reese Hardeman and Kennadi Kirk each homered in the sixth inning to help the Mason County Lady Royals rout the Paris Lady Hounds 15-2 in six innings Tuesday at Paris.

Kirk finished 5-for-5 with a stolen base, three runs scored and five RBI.

Kenzie Gulley went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs scored and three stolen bases.

Nine Lady Royals scored at least one run.

Olivia Hughes pitched a three-hitter, striking out six and walking three.

Mason County improved its record to 19-15. The Lady Royals' next game is Thursday at Rowan County.

Lady Royals' winning streak snapped by a 17-2 loss to Campbell County

A 17-2 loss to the Campbell County Lady Camels in four innings in Claryville Thursday snapped the Mason County Lady Royals' five-game winning streak.

The Lady Camels outhit the Lady Royals 16-5.

Kennadi Kirk doubled in a run in her only at bat. She also stole a base and scored a run for the Lady Royals.

Mason County (18-14) will be in action action Monday at 5:30 p.m. vs. the Lewis County Lady Lions.

Rigg and Kirk each hit a HR in the Lady Royals' win over Elliott County

Delana Rigg hit a three-run inside-the-park home run and finished with five RBI and Kennadi Kirk hit a two-run home run in the Mason County Lady Royals' 9-5 win over the Elliott County Lady Lions Wednesday.

The Lady Royals (14-13) have won four of their last five games. They travel to Augusta today play the Lady Panthers at 5 p.m.

Several local players among the state softball and baseball stats leaders

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association released its first statistics reports of the softball and baseball seasons and Mason County sophmore Kenzie Gulley leads the state in hits with 29 and is tied for the most stolen bases with 21.

Mason County junior Marcella Gifford is tied for second in hits (23), is third in doubles (8) and is tied for fourth in RBI (24).

Mason County senior Kennadi Kirk is tied for fourth in doubles (7) and is tied for fifth in hits (21).

Mason County eight grader Delana Rigg is tied for third in bases on balls (10).

In team stats, the Lady Royals lead the state in hits (139) and doubles (36) and are third in RBI (104) and fourth in runs (116).

In the baseball stats, Mason County senior Landon Scilley is tied for sixth with three.

Roush and Kirk with 8 RBI games on the same day

An eight-RBI game is a fairly rare occurrence, but two local high school softball players — St. Patrick senior Makenna Roush and Mason County senior Kennadi Kirk — sophomore Bryce Pollitt and eighth grader Dillon Mitchell — pulled it off on the same day last week.

On Thursday, Roush went 3-for-4 with a triple, a home run and eight-RBI in the Lady Saints' 18-1 win over the Augusta Lady Panthers in three innings.

Roush also pitched and threw a two-hitter and struck out six.

On the same day, Kirk went 4-for-5 with two home runs and eight RBI in the Lady Royals' 11-10 loss to the Bath County Wildcats.

Royals and Lady Royals open their seasons with victories, Lady Saints shutout

The local baseball and softball teams opened the season on Wednesday.

Landon Scilley hit two home runs and the Mason County Royals beat the Nicholas County Bluejackets 9-2. 

The Royals travel to Taylor Mill today to play the Scott Eagles.

Kenzie Gulley went 4-for-4 and scored four runs in the Mason County Lady Royals' 17-3 win over the Elliott County Lady Lions. Marcella Gifford drove in five runs and Kennadi Kirk had four RBI.

The Lady Royals play the East Carter Lady Raiders in Olive Hill today.

The St. Patrick Lady Saints lost to the Fleming County Lady Panthers 19-0 in four innings. The Lady Saints are scheduled to host Mason County on Friday.
