Royals end the season with a 9-2 loss to Montgomery County

The Mason County Royals' baseball season came to an end with a 9-2 loss to the Montgomery County Indians in the quarterfinal round of the 10th Region Tournament on Monday at Campbell County.

Montgomery County scored three runs in the first inning and one run in the second inning.

Mason County got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning. Myles Kern led off the inning with an infield single and scored on Cray Fite's RBI single.

The Indians added three more runs in the fourth inning and single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. 

The Royals scored a run in the bottom of the inning as Brady Mefford hit a single and scored on an error.

Fite was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Mason County, the defending 10th Region champion, finished the season with a 9-16 record.

Royals lose to Montomery County 12-7

The Mason County Royals squandered a 5-0 lead and lost to the Montgomery County Indians 12-7 on Wednesday in Mt. Sterling. 

Mason County scored four runs in the first inning and added a run in the second inning.

Montomery County rallied with six runs in the bottom of the second inning and tacked on two runs in the third inning and four more in the fifth inning.

The Royals scored two runs in the seventh inning.

Carter Roark and Micah Payne each drove in two runs. Justin Youngman, Macen Grooms and Myles Kern each had an RBI.

Mason County (4-10) will play at Greenup County today at 6:30 p.m.

Royals beat Bracken County 11-3

The Mason County Royals defeated the Bracken County Polar Bears 11-3 on Tuesday in Brooksville.

The bottom three hitters in the lineup — Myles Kern, Luke Butler and Carter Roark  combined for five hits, two runs and five RBI.

The Royals scored in every inning except the sixth. They plated four runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-2 lead.

Mason County (4-9) will travel to Mt. Sterling today to play the Montgomery County Indians at 6 p.m.

Royals fall to Panthers in AA section semifinals

The Mason County Royals lost to the Fleming County Panthers 5-2 in the semifinals of the Kentucky 2A Section 6 Tournament on Wednesday in Flemingsburg.

Fleming County (6-6) scored two runs in the first inning and two more in the third inning.

Mason County (2-6) cut the deficit in half in the sixth inning with a bases loaded walk and Myles Kern's RBI single. The Royals left the bases loaded.

Fleming County added an insurance run in the seventh inning.

The Royals will travel to Richmond on Thursday to play the Model Patriots.
