Royals golf team season ends, Feldhaus qualifies for state championships

The Mason County Royals golf team closed out the season with a tie for fifth place in the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys' State Golf First Round at Winchester Country Club Tuesday.

Mason County sophomore Jake Feldhaus qualified for the state championships next month at Bowling Green Country Club by shooting an even-par 72 Tuesday. He tied for sixth place. 

Noah Gardner shot a 77, Cole Owens an 84 and Quin Grooms an 87 to round out the Royals' team score of 320. Ryan Skaggs, the only senior in Mason County's top five, shot a 93.

Fleming County senior Seth Hickerson carded a 78 and Fleming County senior Adam Hargett shot an 83. 

Madison Central (294), George Rogers Clark (306) and Rockcastle County (308) are the three teams that advanced to the state championships.

Tee times set for State Golf First Round

Tee times are set for the 2023 Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA State Golf First Round.

Winchester Country Club is the Section 3 site for Regions 9-12. The girls play Monday, the boys Tuesday.

Here are the tee times for area qualifiers:

The Mason County Royals, the Region 12 champions, are paired with Madison Central, George Rogers Clark and Rockcastle County.

The top three teams, along with the top 15 individuals not from a qualifying team, will advance to the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA State Championships at Bowling Green Country Club next month. 

Tickets for the State Golf First Round will be sold online via GoFan, the official digital ticket vendor for the KHSAA. No paper tickets will be sold at the golf course. 

Advance tickets are $10 each. Tickets purchased the day of the event will cost $12 each.

Royals golf team completes four-peat at region tournament

The Mason County Royals won the Region 12 Golf Tournament for the fourth straight year Tuesday with a team score of 305 at Irish Hills Golf Course in Mt. Sterling.

It's the first four-peat in the history of the Royals' golf program.

Jake Feldhaus shot a 1-over par 72 to tie for second place in the individual standings. Noah Gardner shot a 76 and tied for eighth place.

Cole Owens and Quin Grooms each shot a 78 to round out the team score. Ryan Skaggs shot an 80.

Fleming County junior Seth Hickerson shot a 3-under par 68 to win the individual championship.

The Mason County team, Hickerson and Fleming County senior Adam Hargett (77) all advance to the First Round State Tournament next week at Winchester Country Club.

Royals finish fourth at Kentucky 2A Championships, Feldhaus T3

The Mason County Royals finished in fourth place in the Kentucky 2A Championships boys' state golf tournament at Owensboro Country Club Monday with a team score of 24-over par 312.

Christian Academy-Louisville won the tournament with a score of four-over par 292.

Jake Feldhaus led Mason County with an even par 72 and tied for third in the individual standings. Cole Owens carded a 78. Quin Grooms and Ryan Skaggs each shot an 81 and Noah Gardner had an 85.

Brady Smith of Christian Academy-Louisville was the individual champion. He shot a tournament record six-under par 66.

Royals had a team score of 330 in the St. Elizabeth Healthcare Invitational

The Mason County Royals had a team score of 330 in the St. Elizabeth Healthcare Invitational at the Willow at Kenton County Golf Courses in Independence Saturday.

It was the Royals' first tournament since August 14 and they were without two of the normal top five golfers, Noah Gardner and Ryan Skaggs.

Quin Grooms led the Royals with an 80. Jake Feldhaus followed with an 81, Jaxen Crabtree shot an 83 and Cole Owens carded an 86 to round out the team score.

Logan Crockett shot an 87.

Feldhaus second with a 69 at Bronco Invitational

Mason County sophomore Jake Feldhaus shot a 3-under par 69 and finished in second place at the 4th Annual Bronco Invitational at Kearney Hills Golf Links in Lexington Monday.

Feldhaus hit all 18 greens and only had 35 putts for his sixth top two finish of the season.

Noah Gardner's 78, Quin Grooms' 79 and Cole Owens' 81 rounded out the Royals' team score of 307.

Ryan Skaggs shot an 84.

George Rogers Clark won the tournament with a team score of 297.

After playing in 14 tournaments in 24 days, the Royals are off until August 26 when they will play in the St. Elizabeth Invitational at the Willows at Kenton County Golf Courses in Independence.

Royals seventh at Judy Construction Invitational

The Mason County Royals finished seventh in the Judy Construction Invitational at Houston Oaks Golf Club in Paris Sunday.

The Royals had a team score of 320.

Defending state champion Madison Central won the tournamentnwith a team score of 297.

Jake Feldhaus led Mason County with an even par 72 for a T4 finish.

Quin Grooms shot a 77. Cole Owens followed with an 85. Noah Gardner carded an 86. Ryan Skaggs finished with an 87.

Mason County will travel to Lexington Monday for the Bronco Invitational hosted by Frederick Douglass at Kearney Hills Golf Links.

Royals 10th, Feldhaus runner-up at Kentucky Invitational Tournament

Competing against 17 of the top teams in the state, the Mason County Royals, led by Jake Feldhaus' runner-up finish, took 10th place in the Kentucky Invitational Tournament at Wildwood Country Club in Louisville Saturday with a team score of 320.

Feldhaus fired a 3-under par 69 and finished regulation play tied with Christian Academy-Louisville senior Brady Smith. 

Smith, the individual state champion last year and a University of Louisville commit, beat Feldhaus on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to win medalist honors.

Quin Grooms shot an 80. Noah Gardner carded an 84. Ryan Skaggs added an 87 to the team score and Cole Owens shot a 93.

The Royals will play in the Judy Construction Invitational hosted by the Harrison County Thorobreds at Houston Oaks Golf Course in Paris Sunday.

Royals win the Mason County Open

The Mason County Royals picked up their second tournament win of the season with a team score of 15-over 303 at the Mason County Open at Laurel Oaks Golf Course Monday.

Rainy and stormy weather made for a long day. The teams had to play in heavy rain at times and wait out a two-hour delay.

Jake Feldhaus led Mason County with a 74. Quin Grooms followed with a 75. Noah Gardner carded a 76 and Cole Owens added a 78 to round out the team score. Ryan Skaggs shot an 82.

The Royals will play in the Trinity Invitational at Oxmoor Country Club in Louisville Tuesday.

Royals finish eighth at the Battle of the Bridge

 Another top 10 finish for the Mason County boys' golf team.

The Royals had a team score of 318 and finished eighth at the Battle of the Bridge at Old Bridge Golf Course in Danville today.

Jake Feldhaus shot a 1-under 71 and tied for third. Noah Gardner's 80, Cole Owens' 83 and Quin Grooms' 84 rounded out the team score. Ryan Skaggs shot a 91. 

The Mason County Open is Monday at Laurel Oaks Golf Course.

Royals runners-up at WCC Semi-State Preview

Playing in their fourth tournament in as many days, the Mason County Royals were the runners-up at the Winchester Country Club Semi-State Preview Thursday.

George Rogers Clark won with a team score of 298. Mason County finished seven shots back.

Jake Feldhaus tied for first with a 4-under 68.

Noah Gardner and Cole Owens each shot a 78. Quin Grooms followed with an 81 and Ryan Skaggs carded an 87.

The Royals will play in the Battle of the Bridge at Old Bridge Golf Course in Danville Saturday.

Royals finish seventh at Charger Open

With a team score of 29-over 317, the Mason County Royals finished seventh at the Charger Open at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Shepherdsville Tuesday.

Jake Feldhaus fired a 2-under 70 and finished third. Quin Grooms followed with an 80. Ryan Skaggs carded an 83 and Noah Gardner and Cole Owens each shot an 84.

The Royals will play in the Kentucky Cup on the Big Blue course at University Club of Kentucky Wednesday.

Royals ninth at Colonel Classic

The Mason County Royals finished ninth at the Colonel Classic at Oldham County Country Club in Buckner Monday.

The tournament featured many of the top teams in the state.

Mason County had a team score of 31-over 315.

Christian Academy of Louisville won the tournament at 9 over.

The Royals were led by Jake Feldhaus who finished tied for eighth at 2-over 73. Noah Gardner and Ryan Skaggs shot an 80. Cole Owens carded an 82 and Quin Grooms shot a 90.

Mason County will play in the Charger Open at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Shepherdsville.

Taylor County wins Mason County/St. Patrick Invitational

The Taylor County Cardinals won the Mason County/St. Patrick Invitational at Maysville Country Club Saturday.

Taylor County had a team score of 17-over 305. Madison Central finished second (306), Oldham County was third (314), Great Crossing took fourth place (321), Covington Catholic was fifth (322) and Mason County finished sixth (323).

Mason County was led by Jake Feldhaus who shot an even par 72 and finished fourth. Noah Gardner shot an 82. Cole Owens followed with an 84. Quin Grooms carded an 85 and Ryan Skaggs shot an 86.

Madison Central senior Warren Thomis fired a 4-under 68 to win the medalist award.

Mason County's "B" team shot a 360.

The Royals will play in the Colonel Classic at Oldham County Country Club in Buckner Tuesday.

Royals win Scott County Classic

The Mason County Royals won the Scott County Cardinal Classic in a playoff today at Cherry Blossam Golf Course in Georgetown.

The Royals finished regulation play tied with Eastern at 9-over 297. The tiebreaker was the fifth man's score and it was a tie, so the two teams headed to a playoff and the Royals won.

Jake Feldhaus led the way with a 70. Quin Grooms followed with a 72. Noah Gardner carded a 73, Ryan Skaggs an 82 and Cole Owens an 84.

The Mason County/St. Patrick Invitational is Saturday at Maysville Country Club.

Royals finish 11th at Madison Central Invitational

The Mason County Royals finished in 11th place in the Madison Central Invitational Tuesday at Gibson Bay Golf Course in Richmond.

The tournament included many of the top teams in the state.

St. Xavier won the tournament with a score of 4-under 284. Mason County had a team score of 25-over 313.

Mason County sophomore Jake Feldhaus shot a 1-under 71 and tied for fifth in the individual standings.

Cole Owens carded the next best score for the Royals with a 78. Quin Grooms followed with an 81. Noah Gardner shot an 83 and Ryan Skaggs carded an 86.

Mason County will play in the Cardinal Classic at Cherry Blossam Golf Club in Georgetown Thursday.

Royals finish second in Eagle Trace Invitational, qualify for 2A state tourney

The  Mason County Royals opened the 2023 high school golf season with a runner-up finish in the Eagle Trace Invitational Saturday and qualified for the Kentucky 2A Championships state tournament.

The Royals had a team score of 304. Jake Feldhaus led Mason County with a 4-under 68 and finished second after one playoff hole. Quin Grooms followed with a 78, Noah Gardner carded a 79 and Cole Owens and Ryan Skaggs each shot an 81.

Mason County will play in the Madison Central Invitational at Gibson Bay Tuesday.

Top five set for Mason County boys' golf team for the 2023 season

The Mason County boys' golf team held its final day of qualifying today at Maysville Country Club followed by the Qualifer Awards Night.

The Royals' top five for the 2023 season was determined by the qualifying rounds:

1. Jake Feldhaus
2. Quin Grooms
3. Noah Gardner
4. Cole Owens
5. Ryan Skaggs

Grooms and Skaggs are seniors. Feldhaus, Gardner and Owens are sophomores.

The Royals will open the season July 22 at the Eagle Trace Invitational.
