Lady Royals lose to Harrison County 6-1 in region semifinals

The Mason County Lady Royals were held to three hits and lost to the Harrison County Fillies 6-1 in the semifinals of the 10th Region softball tournament on Thursday at Pendleton County.

The Lady Royals fell behind 6-0 before scoring their lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kylah Turner drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second base on a groundout by Olivia Hughes, reached third base on a wild pitch and scored on Reese Hardeman's sacrific fly.

Mason County threatened to score in the bottom of the seventh inning. Karleigh Thomas and Kenzie Gulley both singled followed by another walk to Turner, but the Lady Royals left the bases loaded.

Hughes and Delana Rigg were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Mason County ends the season with an 11-19 record.

Lady Royals advance to region semifinals with 5-1 victory over Scott

Olivia Hughes went 3 for 4, drove in two runs and scored a run and Delana Rigg pitched a four-hitter as the Mason County Lady Royals beat the Scott Lady Eagles 5-1 in the opening game of the 10th Region Tournament in Falmouth on Monday morning.

The Lady Royals scored three runs in the first inning. Reese Hardeman drove in Kylah Turner with a single, Hughes, who had singled, scored on a groundout by Workman, and Hardeman scored on an error.

After Scott scored a run in the top of the fourth inning, Mason County added a run in the bottom of the fourth. Kenzie Gulley hit a triple and scored on a single by Hughes.

The Lady Royals tacked on an insurance run in the fifth inning. Gulley drew a walk, moved to second on a fielder's choice, stole third base and scored on another single by Hughes.

Rigg struckout four and walked two in picking up her sixth win of the season.

Mason County (11-18) will play the Harrison County Fillies in the semifinals on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Harrison County shutout George Rogers Clark 10-0 in six innings on Monday.

Lady Royals beat Dixie Heights 11-2

Kenzie Gulley had three hits including a triple, stole four bases, scored a run and drove in a run as the Mason County Lady Royals beat the Dixie Heights Colonels 11-2 on Wednesday in Edgewood. 

Sydney Ullery and Reese Hardeman each drove in two runs. Delana Rigg and Olivia Hughes each had three hits, scored a run, drove in a run and combined on a five-hitter.

Mason County (7-13) will host the Nicholas County Lady Jackets today at 5:30 p.m.

Lady Royals snap skid with an 8-7 win over Scott

Sydney Ullery went 2 for 4 and drove in three runs as the Mason County Lady Royals snapped a five-game losing streak with an 8-7 victory over the Scott Lady Eagles on Wednesday at the Tom Browning Boys and Girls Club.

Scott scored three runs in the first inning and led 4-0 in the middle of the third inning. 

Mason County answered with five runs in the bottom of the third. 

The Lady Eagles regained the lead with two runs in the sixth inning. 

The Lady Royals rallied with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. 

Scott loaded the bases with one out in the seventh inning and scored a run on a fielders choice. Mason County pitcher Delana Rigg got the next batter to fly out to give the Lady Royals their sixth win of the season.

Reagan Workman scored three runs and Kalyn Gallagher had two RBI and scored two runs.

Mason County will play the Fleming County Lady Panthers in Flemingsburg on Friday at 6 p.m.

Lady Royals shutout by Bourbon County

The Mason County Lady Royals were shutout 2-0 by the Bourbon County Lady Colonels on Friday in Paris.

Sydney Ullery had a single and Claire Miller a double for Mason County's two hits. The Lady Royals struck out 14 times.

Delana Rigg pitched well in the loss, giving up two earned runs on eight hits while striking out nine and walking one.

Mason County (3-9) plays the East Carter Lady Raiders today at 11 a.m. in the David Iery Classic at East Carter.

Lady Royals lose two games in the Cal Ripken Experience on Tuesday

The Mason County Lady Royals lost their first two games in the Cal Ripken Experience in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

They suffered a 13-5 loss to York High of Elmhurst, Illinois on Tuesday morning and lost to Chicago Taft 10-1 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Royals committed five errors in the morning game. Kenzie Gulley had two hits and scored a run. Reese Hardeman and Delana Rigg each had an RBI. 

Karleigh Thomas drove in Cadence Garrison with a double in the sixth inning in the afternoon game.

The Lady Royals (4-4) will play McDowell Senior High of Erie, Pennsylvania on Thursday at 1 p.m.

Lady Royals shutout Nicholas County 10-0

Delana Rigg pitched a four-hitter and struck out 14 batters as the Mason County Lady Royals beat the Nicholas County Lady Jackets 10-0 in six innings on Friday in Carlisle.

Aubrey Gross had three hits and two RBI. Reese Hardeman had three hits and one RBI. Olivia Hughes, Karleigh Thomas and Reagan Workman each had two RBI.

Mason County (4-2) is scheduled to play three games in the Cal Ripken Experience in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee next week.

Lady Royals are district champions

The Mason County Lady Royals won the 39th District Tournament with victories over the Augusta Lady Panthers and the Bracken County Lady Bears on Tuesday in Brooksville.

Mason County defeated Augusta 10-0 in five innings in the semifinals and shutout Bracken County 2-0 in the championship game.

In the semifinal game, Delana Rigg and Talynn Sapp combined on a two-hitter.

Rigg struck out eight in four innings. She also drove in three runs on two hits.

Kenzie Gulley went 3-for-3 with three RBI.

Olivia Hughes pitched a four-hitter and struck out five in the championship game.

Gulley led off the game with a double, stole second and scored on Reese Hardeman's RBI single.

Gulley led off third inning with a single, stole second and third and scored on an error.

It is Mason County's first district title since 2021.

Mason County and Bracken County both advance to the 10th Region Tournament.

Lady Royals defeat Campbell County 8-1

The Mason County Lady Royals scored five runs in the sixth inning and beat the Campbell County Lady Camels 8-1 on Monday at the Tom Browning Boys and Girls Club.

Olivia Hughes, who usually pitches, was in left field and drove in four runs.

Delana Rigg pitched a complete game for her second win of the season.

Mason County (19-10) will play at Greenup County on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Lady Royals run winning streak to six games with a victory Rowan County

The Mason County Lady Royals scored three runs in the seventh inning and beat the Rowan County Lady Vikings 6-4 on Thursday in Morehead for their sixth straight victory. 

Mason County led 3-0 after three innings, but Rowan County rallied to take a 4-3 lead.

Reese Hardeman, leading off the seventh inning, was hit by a pitch. Olivia Hughes followed with single. A single by Delana Rigg drove in Hardeman. After the next two batters were retired, Hayley Allison hit a single driving in Hughes and Rigg. 

Rigg finished with three hits and two RBI and scored two runs. She got the win in relief.

Mason County (17-8) will travel to Mt. Orab on Friday to play Western Brown at 6 p.m.

Lady Royals beat Nicholas County and Calvary Christian in Keith Carver Classic

The Mason County Lady Royals defeated the Nicholas County Lady Jackets 6-4 and the Calvary Christian Lady Cougars 11-1 in five innings in the Keith Carver Classic on Saturday at the Tom Browning Boys and Girls Club.

Kylah Turner's two-run double in the sixth inning broke a 4-4 tie in the first game. 

Kenzie Gulley went 3-for-4 with a single, a double and a triple and drove in three runs and scored three runs.

Reese Hardeman also had three hits and drove in a run.

Olivia Hughes picked up her 13th win. She struck out six while walking one and allowing seven hits.

Mason County scored eight runs in the third inning in the victory over Calvary Christian.

Ayslee Crabtree scored three runs.

Sydney Ullery went 2-for-2 including a triple and had two RBI.

Taylynn Sapp and Delana Rigg combined for a two-hitter.

The Lady Royals have won a season-high four straight games to run their record to 15-8.

Their next five games are on the road beginning Tuesday at Scott.

Lady Saints beat Lady Saints 14-1 in five innings

The Mason County Lady Royals celebrated Senior Night and extended their winning streak to a season-high four games with a 14-1 victory over the St. Patrick Lady Saints in five innings Tuesday at the Tom Browning Boys and Girls Club.

Kenzie Gulley went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, a stolen base, three runs scored and four RBI for the Lady Royals.

Teammate Shelby Thompson had three RBI.

Delana Rigg and Olivia Hughes combined for a two-hitter.

Caroline Poczatek drove in the Lady Saints' run.

Mason County (17-13) will host Ripley Wednesday at 5 p.m.

St. Patrick (5-11) plays at Bellevue Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Lady Royals beat Scott 9-6

The Mason County Lady Royals have won three straight games and six of their last seven after beating the Scott Eagles 9-6 Friday.

Stevie Foley hit a home run and Kenzie Gulley went 3-for-4 with a triple, two stolen bases, two runs and one RBI.

Marcella Gifford went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Olivia Hughes went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and two RBI. 

Delana Rigg gave up five runs on six hits while striking out six and walking five in six innings.

Mason County (18-13) will host the St. Patrick Lady Saints Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Lady Royals rout Augusta 18-0 in three innings

Delana Rigg threw a no-hitter and Olivia Hughes went 3-for-3 with three RBI and scored three runs to help propel the Mason County Lady Royals to an 18-0 victory over the Augusta Lady Panthers in three innings in Augusta Thursday.

Marcella Gifford went 2-for-4 with three RBI and scored two runs.

Kenzie Gulley stole four bases in four attempts and scored three runs.

Rigg struck out six in picking up her eighth win of the season.

The Lady Royals () host the Scott Lady Eagles today at 6 p.m.

Rigg and Kirk each hit a HR in the Lady Royals' win over Elliott County

Delana Rigg hit a three-run inside-the-park home run and finished with five RBI and Kennadi Kirk hit a two-run home run in the Mason County Lady Royals' 9-5 win over the Elliott County Lady Lions Wednesday.

The Lady Royals (14-13) have won four of their last five games. They travel to Augusta today play the Lady Panthers at 5 p.m.

Lady Royals rout Holy Cross and Calvary Christian in Keith Carver Classic

The Mason County Lady Royals defeated Holy Cross 15-2 in five innings and Calvary Christian 11-1 in five innings in the Keith Carver Classic Saturday to run their winning streak to three games.

The Lady Royals only had four hits in the win over Holy Cross, but they drew 12 walks and stole eight bases in eight attempts. Eight different players drove in at least one run. 

Olivia Hughes pitched a three-hitter striking out six and walking two.

Kenzie Gulley went 3-for-3 with two triples and three RBI in the win over Calvary Christian.

Marcella Gifford also had three RBI.

Delana Riggs tossed a five-hitter strking out five and walking three.

Mason County (13-12) will host the Bath County Lady Wildcats today at 6 p.m.

Lady Royals beat Ripley 12-2 in six innings

Marcella Gifford and Delana Rigg each drove in three runs and the Mason County Royals beat the Ripley Lady Jays 12-2 in six innings Monday in Ripley.

Kenzie Gulley went 4-for-5 including a triple. She had two RBI and scored two runs.

Gifford also scored two runs.

Rigg picked up her sixth win of the season.

Mason County (10-10) will travel to Flemingsburg Wednesday to play the Fleming County Lady Panthers.

Several local players among the state softball and baseball stats leaders

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association released its first statistics reports of the softball and baseball seasons and Mason County sophmore Kenzie Gulley leads the state in hits with 29 and is tied for the most stolen bases with 21.

Mason County junior Marcella Gifford is tied for second in hits (23), is third in doubles (8) and is tied for fourth in RBI (24).

Mason County senior Kennadi Kirk is tied for fourth in doubles (7) and is tied for fifth in hits (21).

Mason County eight grader Delana Rigg is tied for third in bases on balls (10).

In team stats, the Lady Royals lead the state in hits (139) and doubles (36) and are third in RBI (104) and fourth in runs (116).

In the baseball stats, Mason County senior Landon Scilley is tied for sixth with three.

Royals and Lady Royals get bounce-back wins on Tuesday

After suffering their first loss of the season on Monday, falling to the Campbell County Camels 4-0, the Mason County Royals had a dramatic bounce-back victory Tuesday evening. 

Cray Fite doubled in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 5-4 walk-off win over the Nicholas County Bluejackets.

Fite hit his second home run of the season earlier in the game.

Mason County (5-1) plays at Pendleton County today at 5:30.

The Mason County Lady Royals snapped a two-game losing streak with a 19-3 victory over the West Carter Lady Comets in six innings.

Delana Rigg was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with five RBI. Marcella Gifford went 4-for-5 with four RBI and pitched a three hitter, striking out eight and walking two.

The Lady Royals (4-4) play at Nicholas County today at 6 p.m.

Baseball and softball roundup for Tuesday

Westin Messer's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Mason County Royals a 5-4 walkoff win over the Bishop Brossart Mustangs on Tuesday. The Royals are off to a 4-0 start.

Messer was the starting pitcher. He pitched five innings with seven strikeouts and only one walk.

Landon Scilley went 3-for-4 including a two-run home run in the fifth inning.

The Royals are scheduled to play the Franklin County Flyers in the Keith Prater Invitational at Rowan County on Friday night.

Delana Rigg tossed a four-hitter in the Mason County Lady Royals' 7-2 victory over the Paris Lady Hounds. Riggs struck out seven and walked one.

Mason County (3-2) plays at Bath County on Thursday.

The St. Patrick Lady Saints lost to the Bishop Brossart Lady 'Stangs in five innings in the 10th Region All "A" Classic.

St. Patrick (1-3) is scheduled to play at Nicholas County today.
