Mason County and Bracken County winners in girls' 39th District Tournament semis

The Mason County Lady Royals and the Bracken County Lady Bears posted semifinal wins in the 39th District Tournament on Monday night at The Fieldhouse and will meet in the championship game on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Mason County 63, St. Patrick 25
Lexi Young had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Royals to their 21st win of the season. 

Emma Gallenstein and Lillian Klee each scored 11 points for the Lady Saints who closed out the season with a 4-19 record.

Mason County outscored St. Patrick 21-3 in the second quarter and 17-2 in the third quarter. The final 12:05 was played with a running clock.

Nicole Archibald scored 22 points and the Lady Bears rallied from a 16-point deficit.

Savannah Kelsch added 10 points and Brianna Bauer had nine points and nine rebounds for Bracken County (21-10) which ran its winning streak to four games.

Augusta (11-17) was up 26-10 late in the first quarter, but only scored three points in the second quarter, and Bracken County led 34-29 at halftime.

Kenzington Hinson led the Lady Panthers with 15 points and 11 rebounds and Aryanna Davis chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds. Laci Tackett had nine points and nine assists.

Reed scores 25 to lead the Lady Royals to a 61-55 win over Bracken County

Amirah Reed hit five 3-pointers and scored 25 points as the Mason County Lady Royals clinched the No. 1 seed in the district tournament with a 61-55 victory over the Bracken County Lady Bears on Thursday night at The Fieldhouse.

Olivia Hughes had 13 points and Adrienne Downs-Perry added 11 points for the Lady Royals who ran their record to 13-5.

Kailey Sharp scored 18 points while Nicole Archibald tossed in 16 points and Brianna Bauer added 13 points for the Lady Bears who fell to 9-6.

Mason County led 46-32 with 6:32 left in the game. Bracken County pulled to within 49-45 with 2:02 to go, but Reed hit back-to-back 3s to put the Lady Royals up 55-44 with 1:05 to play.

Mason County will play Parkersburg, West Virginia on Saturday at 11:15 a.m. at Eastern Brown.

Bracken County will host Augusta on Saturday night.

Lady Bears beat Lady Saints 73-31

Nicole Archibald scored 26 points, Brianna Bauer added 16 
and the Bracken County Lady Bears defeated the St. Patrick Lady Saints 73-31 on Friday night at The Igloo in Brooksville.

Lillian Klee led St. Patrick in scoring with 14 points.

Nicole Archibald scores 29 points to lead Bracken County to district championship

Nicole Archibald scored 29 points to lead the Bracken County Lady Bears to a 64-52 win over the Mason County Lady Royals on Thursday night in the championship game of the 39th District Tournament at Bracken County.

Brianna Bauer added 12 points for the Lady Bears (17-14) who are back-to-back district champions.

Mason County (20-11) was led in scoring by Lexi Young with 19 points. Amirah Reed followed with 14 points and Carlee Buttery tossed in 10.

There were three lead changes and five ties in the first half.

Bracken County took control of the game with a 13-0 run from late in the second quarter to the 4:25 mark of the third quarter to lead 40-27.

Mason County cut the gap to 52-47 with 4:29 left in the game, but Archibald made 12-of-14 free throws in a span of three minutes and six seconds to push the lead to 64-49.

Both teams advance to the 10th Region Tournament at Bourbon County.

Lady Bears defeat Lady Saints in district semis

Nicole Archibald scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Bracken County Lady Bears to a 73-27 win over the St. Patrick Lady Saints on Monday night in the semifinals of the 39th District Tournament at Bracken County.

Savannah Kelsch added 10 points for the Lady Bears (16-14) who have won three straight games and seven of their last nine.

Emma Gallenstein led St. Patrick (2-15) in scoring with 14 points and Lillian Klee added 10 points.

Bracken County led 19-2 at the end of the first quarter and 39-7 at halftime. The running clock began when the Lady Bears led 47-11 with 5:02 remaining in the third quarter. The biggest lead was 68-21 with 2:22 left in the game.

Bracken County advances to the championship game to play the winner of Tuesday night's game between Augusta and Mason County.

Klee scores 29 points in Lady Saints' loss to Bracken County

Lillian Klee scored a career-high 29 points in the St. Patrick Lady Saints' 80-37 loss to the Bracken County Lady Bears on Thursday night in Brooksville. 

Ella Johnson led Bracken County's trio of double figure scorers with 19 points while Nicole Archibald followed with 14 and Jenna Colvin added 10.

St. Patrick (2-8) will play Covington Latin on Tuesday night.

Bracken County (8-10) will host Montgomery County on Monday night.

Lady Bears edge Lady Saints 40-36 in district championship game

The Bracken County Lady Bears edged the St. Patrick Lady Saints 40-36 in the championship game of the 39th District Tournament at The Fieldhouse on Thursday night.

It is the Lady Bears' first district title since 2014.

Bracken County led by as many as 10 points in the first half and was up by eight in the third quarter.

A personal 10-0 run by St. Patrick senior Izzy Riggs pushed the Lady Saints into the lead at 31-29 early in the fourth quarter, but Nicole Archibald swished a 3-pointer to put the Lady Bears back in front at 32-31. Archibald's basket started a 9-0 run for Bracken County.

St. Patrick did not score again until Caroline McKay banked in a floater with nine seconds left.

Ella Johnson hit two free throws with six seconds to play to give Bracken County a 40-33 lead.

McKay hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Johnson led Bracken County (19-13) in scoring with 15 points. Archibald tossed in 12 points and Macie Sharp added 10.

Riggs finished with 21 points and eight rebounds for St. Patrick (16-15).

Both teams advance to the 10th Region Tournament.

Lady Bears beat Lady Royals

The Bracken County Lady Bears made 18-of-20 free throws in the fourth quarter and defeated the Mason County Lady Royals 55-44 in the upper bracket semifinal game of the 39th District Tournament at The Fieldhouse on Monday night.

Both teams struggled to make shots from the field (24.5% for Bracken County, 25.5% for Mason County).

The Lady Bears outscored the Lady Royals 23-14 in the fourth quarter.

Ella Johnson made four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds for Bracken County. Nicole Archibald hit 11-of-12 free throws including 10-of-10 in the fourth quarter and finished with 16 points.

Mason County was led in scoring by Laci Burns with 16 points.
Avery Sims had 10 points and 14 rebounds.

The Lady Bears (18-13) advance to Thursday night's championship game to play the winner of Tuesday night's semifinal game between St. Patrick and Augusta.

The Lady Royals end the season with an 11-18 record.

Lady Saints fall to Bracken County 34-26

The St. Patrick Lady Saints lost to district rival Bracken County 34-26 at The Igloo on Tuesday night.

Both teams scored the same amount of points in the fourth quarter as they did through the first three quarters.

Izzy Riggs led St. Patrick (11-9) in scoring with 13 points.

Nicole Archibald had 13 points for Bracken County (14-10).

The Lady Saints will host Whiteoak on Thursday night.

The Lady Bears, winners of five straight games, will be home on Monday against the Ripley Lady Jays.

Adkins scores 20 points as Lady Royals win their 8th straight district championship

Hannah Adkins hit four three-pointers and scored 20 points to lead the Mason County Lady Royals to a 49-35 victory over the Bracken County Lady Bears in the championship game of the 39th District Tournament tonight at The Fieldhouse.

Mason County led 27-12 at the half. Bracken County pulled to within eight points in the third quarter at 39-31, but the Lady Royals answered with a 6-0 run.

Laci Burns chipped in 11 points for Mason County (17-9).

Bracken County (14-10) was led in scoring by Nicole Archibald with 20 points.

The 10th Region Tournament gets underway Monday night at Nicholas County.

The Bracken County Lady Bears rout the shorthanded St. Patrick Lady Saints 79-48

The Bracken County Lady Bears are headed to the 10th Region Tournament for the first time since 2018 after routing the shorthanded St. Patrick Lady Saints 79-48 in the upper bracket semifinal game of the 39th District Tournament tonight at The Fieldhouse.

St. Patrick (17-12) was without its leading scorer Allison Hughes, the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches 10th Region Player of the Year. Hughes was sidelined with a knee injury.

Macie Sharp hit four three-pointers and scored 24 points for Bracken County. Nicole Archibald followed with 20 points and Ella Johnson added 18 points.

Lillian Klee led St. Patrick in scoring with 19 points. Makenna Roush scored 17 points.

Bracken County (14-9) advances to Thursday night's championship game against the winner of Tuesday nights game between Mason County and Augusta.
