High school baseball fields will be required to have a double first base beginning next season.
The new rule, one of 10 announced by the National Federation of High School Associations, is designed to reduce the number of collisions between base-runners and fielders.

The 10th Region Baseball Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet and the 10th Region Baseball and Softball All-Star Games, organized by 10th Region.com, are scheduled on Tuesday, June 17 at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester.
The banquet will begin at 5:30 p.m in the GRC cafeteria. The members of the first Hall of Fame Class will be introduced first followed by the All-Region teams and award winners.
The Softball All-Star Game will start at 6:30 p.m. The first pitch for the Baseball All-Star Game is scheduled at 7:30 p.m.
Admission is $5. Students in grade 12 and under and assistant coaches will be admitted free. Tickets will be available on GRC's Go Fan page.

The Mason County Royals' baseball season came to an end with a 9-2 loss to the Montgomery County Indians in the quarterfinal round of the 10th Region Tournament on Monday at Campbell County.
Montgomery County scored three runs in the first inning and one run in the second inning.
Mason County got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning. Myles Kern led off the inning with an infield single and scored on Cray Fite's RBI single.
The Indians added three more runs in the fourth inning and single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
The Royals scored a run in the bottom of the inning as Brady Mefford hit a single and scored on an error.
Fite was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Mason County, the defending 10th Region champion, finished the season with a 9-16 record.
The Mason County Royals will play the Montgomery County Indians in the quarterfinal round of the 10th Region baseball tournament.
The draw took place on Friday. The tournament is scheduled to be played at Campbell County High School. However, there is a contingency plan to move the games to Meinken Park, a turf field at 2631 Eastern Avenue in Covington, if there's a lot of rain.

Admission is $7. Tickets may be purchased on GoFan only with no cash sales at the gate if the tournament is played at Campbell County. There will be cash sales at the gate if the tournament is moved to Meinken Park. GoFan will also be an option for games played at Meinken Park.

Former Mason County Royal Landon Scilley has been named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team.
Scilley has played in all 55 of Liberty University's games. He has started at second base, third base, center field and designated hitter. He pitched one inning in relief.
Scilley is batting .263 with five home runs and 34 RBI. He has a .390 slugging percentage and a .338 on-base percentage.
Liberty is hosting the Conference USA double-elimination tournament. Liberty, the No. 8 seed will play No. 1 seed Dallas Baptist on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Cole Messer had a single, triple, a home run and three RBI as the Mason County Royals shutout the Augusta Panthers 15-0 in the championship game of the 39th District Tournament on Monday at Bracken County.
Augusta edged Bracken County 1-0 in the semifinal game.
Mason County had a bye in the semifinals after claiming the No. 1 seed in the district.
Mason County and Augusta both advance to the 10th Region Tournament.
It's postseason tournament time for high school baseball and softball tournaments in Kentucky.
The 39th District baseball tournament will be played on Monday at Bracken County. The 39th District softball tournament is scheduled on Tuesday at the Tom Browning Boys and Girls Club.

Mason County (8-15), the No. 1 seed in the 39th District Tournament, received a bye and will play in the championship game Monday at 7 p.m. at Bracken County vs. the winner of the Augusta vs. Bracken County semifinal game.
The St. Patrick Saints were swept by the Augusta Panthers in a doubleheader on Monday at Augusta. The scores were 15-0 and 18-3.
St. Patrick (0-6) will host the Paris Greyhounds on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Wald Park.

Hayden Workman and Brady Mefford drew back-to-back bases loaded walks in the first inning after Cray Fite reached base on a fielders choice, Micah Payne drew a walk and Nick Mains was hit by a pitch.

Former Mason County Royal Eli Porter has a 3-0 record with three saves, a 2.36 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 18 appearances for the John A. Logan College Volunteers.
Porter, a freshman southpaw, pitched a scoreless inning as the Volunteers closed out the regular season with a 9-8 win over Rend Lake College on Saturday.
John A. Logan College, located in Carterville, Illinois, has a 47-8 overall record and is the Great Rivers Athletic Conference regular season champion with a 26-3 record.

The Mason County girls' and boys' tennis teams both came away with wins over Bourbon County on Monday in Paris.
The Lady Royals won 3-2. Olivia Jackson closed out the match with a third set tiebreak.

The Mason County Royals were unable to hold on to a 3-0 lead and lost to the Greenup County Musketeers on Thursday in Greenup.

Montomery County rallied with six runs in the bottom of the second inning and tacked on two runs in the third inning and four more in the fifth inning.
The Royals scored two runs in the seventh inning.
Carter Roark and Micah Payne each drove in two runs. Justin Youngman, Macen Grooms and Myles Kern each had an RBI.

The bottom three hitters in the lineup — Myles Kern, Luke Butler and Carter Roark — combined for five hits, two runs and five RBI.
The Royals scored in every inning except the sixth. They plated four runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-2 lead.
