Hughes hits seven 3s and scores 25 points to lead the Lady Royals past Fleming County

Olivia Hughes made seven 3-pointers and scored 25 points to lead the Mason County Lady Royals to a 55-49 victory over the Fleming County Lady Panthers on Wednesday night at The Fieldhouse.

Mason County jumped out to an 11-0 lead, but trailed 37-31 with 3:30 left in the third quarter.

The Lady Royals rallied and led 49-42 midway through the fourth quarter.

The Lady Panthers scored six straight points to pull within a point, but Mason County closed out the game on a 6-1 run.

Mallory Price hit five three-pointers and had 18 points and Ava Watson scored 13 points for Fleming County.

Mason County will travel to Carlisle on Thursday night to play the Nicholas County Lady Jackets.

Fleming County will host Greenup County on Friday night.

Lady Royals beat Fleming County 62-48 in 2A section quarterfinal

 The Mason County Lady Royals hope to return to the Kentucky 2A Championships state tournament for the second straight year. 

They took the first step on Friday night with a 62-48 victory over the Fleming County Lady Panthers in a quarterfinal round game of the Section 6 Tournament at The Fieldhouse.

Amirah Reed and Lexi Young scored 23 points apiece for Mason County (10-2).

Ariana Adams led Fleming County (3-7) with 14 points. Ava Watson added 12 and scored her 1,000th career point.

Mason County led 9-0 and 13-2 in the first quarter and 22-12 in the second quarter. Fleming County pulled to within one point at 24-23. 

The Lady Royals were up 27-24 at halftime and pulled away by opening the third quarter with a 15-0 run. Mason County led by as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter.

Mason County advances to the semifinals to play the Rowan County Lady Vikings on Monday night at Rowan County.

Fleming County will play at Russell on January 14.

Lady Panthers pull away early in a 68-46 victory over the Lady Royals

The Mason County Lady Royals had their four-game winning streak snapped by a 68-46 loss to the Fleming County Lady Panthers on Wednesday night at the Lady Royals Gym. 

The loss also snapped the Lady Royals' season-opening 11-game homecourt winning streak.

Mason County led 5-0, but Fleming County answered with an 18-0 run.

The Lady Panthers outshot the Lady Royals 51.7 percent to 20.7 percent from the field in the first half and led 37-15 at haltime.

Mason County applied full-court pressure and closed the gap to 42-30 with 2:55 left in the third quarter, but Fleming County responded with an 11-2 run to push the lead to 53-34 with 5:44 remaining in the game.

The Lady Panthers' biggest lead was 62-39 with 3:22 to play.

Adriana Adams scored a game-high 19 points for Fleming County. Three of her teammates also scored in double figures as Sadie Price followed with 12 points and Abree Argo and Ava Watson each added 11 points.

Amirah Reed made four 3-pointers and scored 17 points for Mason County. Lexi Young had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

For the game, Mason County shot 17-of-61 from the field (27.9 percent) including 6-of-30 from 3-point range.

The Lady Royals (16-10) will be back in action on Friday night vs. Villa Madonna in the Laura Hall Classic at Dayton.

The Lady Panthers (17-8) will travel to Carlisle on Saturday afternoon to play the Nicholas County Lady Jackets.
