Brad Cox is the head coach of the Fleming County Lady Panthers basketball team

Fleming County High School introduced Brad Cox as the new head coach of the Lady Panthers basketball team this afternoon.

Cox goes to Fleming County after being the head coach of the Mason County Lady Royals the past six seasons. He announced his resignation from the Mason County coaching position on Monday. Cox will also be a counselor at Fleming County High School. 

Cox was an assistant coach for the Mason County Royals for five seasons before accepting the girls' coaching job at Mason County. Before that he was an assistant girls' basketball coach at Madisonville-North Hopkins and an assistant boys' basketball coach at Pendleton County. He is a former boys' golf coach at Mason County.

Cox is a graduate of Pendleton County High School and Northern Kentucky University.

Mason County Lady Royals basketball coach Brad Cox resigns

After six seasons as the head coach of the Mason County Lady Royals basketball team, Brad Cox has resigned.

Cox is leaving the Mason County School District to become a counselor at Fleming County High School beginning in the 2021-22 school year.

Cox was hired as the Lady Royals' head coach in 2015 after serving as an assistant coach for the Mason County Royals for five seasons.

He guided the Lady Royals to six consecutive 39th District Championships while compiling a 117-64 record.

Mason County is now searching for head coaches for its football, softball and girls' basketball teams.

Victoria Brooks signs with UC-Clermont

2019 Mason County High School graduate Victoria Brooks signed today to play basketball at University of Cincinnati Clermont College in Batavia, Ohio.

"When I got to visit UC Clermont it was a very small college, and I think I that can personally do better in a smaller college because I can actually work with my teachers and have help from my classmates," Brooks said.

Brooks was named Third Team All Region and to the All-10th Region Tournament Team last season. 

She averaged 10.2 points and 5.4 rebounds a game for the Lady Royals.

"I believe she's going to be able to contribute right away and be a great fit at this level at UC Clermont," Mason County coach Brad Cox said. 

Brooks said she might major in early education.

Schedule changes for the Mason County Lady Royals

Mason County Lady Royals basketball coach Brad Cox has announced three changes to the team's schedule.

Games against Ashland and Bath County have been added, while the January 23rd road game against Scott has been canceled.

The Lady Royals will host the Ashland Kittens for a triple header at the Lady Royals Gym on Saturday, January 19th beginning with the freshmen game at noon.

A road game against the Bath County Lady Wildcats is scheduled Wednesday, January 30th. JV at 6 and varsity at 7:30.

AJ Reed signs with UPike

Mason County senior AJ Reed signed today to play basketball at the University of Pikeville. 

Reed led the Lady Royals in scoring, steals, assists and three-pointers last season while playing point guard. She was named Second Team All-10th Region.

"Considering the talent in our region, with many talented players, that's quite an accomplishment," Mason County coach Brad Cox said.

Reed's dad, Adam Reed, played basketball at Pikeville.

"It's unique opportunity that we have to bring a student-athlete in who's a legacy at the University of Pikeville," UPike coach Clifton Williams said.

Williams said it was special for UPike and special for the Reed family.

"We are going to push AJ to be the best she can be on and off the court, and that's what its all about, and she's going to walk away with a degree," Williams said.

Briana McNutt signs with Thomas More College

Briana McNutt, a member of the Mason County Lady Royals' 1,000 point club, thought her playing days were over as she planned to attend the University of Kentucky, but a visit to Thomas More College changed her mind.

McNutt signed today to play basketball for the Saints. She plans to study nursing.

"I went on a tour at Thomas More because the coach text me, and I just really like it a lot," McNutt said. "I was surprised at how much I liked it, so I thought I should give it a try and see where it takes me."

Another Mason County senior, Maddie Boone, signed with Thomas More in March. McNutt said that wasn't a major factor in her decision, but she said Boone "being there is also a great thing" because they've been friends since preschool, and they are going to room together.

McNutt had 1,043 points, 692 rebounds and 195 assists in her career.

She led the Lady Royals in field goal percentage, free throw percentage and rebounds this past season.

McNutt was named Second Team All-Region and was named to the 10th Region Tournament and Carolina Invitational Tournament all-tournament teams.

"She is a fantastic person," Mason County coach Brad Cox said. "Thomas More is getting another steal in my opinion."

Maddie Boone signs with Thomas More College

Mason County senior Maddie Boone signed today to play basketball at Thomas More College in Crestview Hills.

"I went up there to a college visit and I really liked it." Boone said. "It's small, but I think I that's what I'm looking for."

Mason County coach Brad Cox said Boone was "one of the most versatile players I've had the opportunity to coach, boys or girls."

Boone had 1,066 career points, 703 career rebounds and 313 career assists.

She averaged 7.2 points and 4.9 rebounds this past season while leading the Lady Royals in assists as a forward.

"The most important thing I want to say about Maddie Boone today is that, this year, I'm so proud of the way she matured." Cox said. "She came in everyday with about as good of a mindset as she possibly could under some tough circumstances."

Boone said she is going to major in biology because she wants to be a veterinarian.

Whitney O'Mara signs with Bellarmine University

Mason County senior Whitney O'Mara signed today to play basketball at Bellarmine University, an NCAA Division 2 school in Louisville.

"I really like the coaches, you know, I've known them for awhile," O'Mara said. "I met the teammates when I went up there for the official visit and they all seemed like I will get along with them pretty well. And, I don't know, I just feel like it will be a really good fit whenever I go up their next year and I feel like I will have playing time."

O'Mara scored her 1,000th career point last season. She also has 350 career rebounds and 155 career assists.

"That's very, very impressive she has already has those numbers with one year left to play," Mason County coach Brad Cox said. "And that all comes back to her and her family's commitment to hard work during the season (and) in the summer AAU circuit."

Bellarmine is a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Last season, the Knights earned a berth in the NCAA Division 2 Tournament for the first time since 2008.

Former Mason County standout Shannon Litton is an assistant coach at Bellarmine. 

Chandler Clark Signs With Shawnee State University

Mason County senior Chandler Clark signed today to play golf at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth. Clark played in four state tournaments. Mason County finished third in the 2015 state tournament.

Mason County coach Brad Cox says Clark "improved tremendously throughout his career."

Shawnee State's No. 1 player, Josh Zornes, will graduate this spring. Shawnee State assistant coach Dave Hopkins, who will take over as head coach next season, says Clark has a chance to replace Zornes as the Bears' No. 1 player right away

Tyler Lippert is Region Player of the Year, Brad Cox Region Coach of the Year

Mason County senior Tyler Lippert is the Region 8 boys Player of the Year and Mason County Royals coach Brad Cox is the Region 8 boys Coach of the Year. The awards were announced by the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association.

Mason County senior Christian Arn and Mason County junior Sarah Fite were named to the girls All-Region Team. Mason County junior B.J. Knox and Mason County senior Chandler Clark were named to the boys All-Region Team.

Scott County senior Kylie Lysack is the Region 8 girls Player of the Year. Scott County Coach Tommy Brummett is the Region 8 girls Coach of the Year.

Brad Cox is the new Girls Basketball Coach at Mason County

Mason County High School has chosen a new girls basketball coach for the Mason County School System.  The choice is Brad Cox. He is a 6 year veteran of education and 12^th years in coaching. Coach Cox has been assistant boys coach at Mason County for the last 5 years. Before that Coach Cox was assistant girls coach at Madisonville High School.  He was also assistant boys coach at Pendleton County High School.

Coach Cox is a graduate of Northern Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Social Studies Education. He graduated from Pendleton County High School in 2002.
