Lady Royals lose in region semis on Harrison County's three-pointer with 1.9 left

The Mason County Lady Royals suffered a heartbreaking season-ending loss in the 10th Region Tournament semifinals tonight.

Gabrielle Hatterick drained a corner three to give the Harrison County Fillies a 37-34 victory at Montgomery County.

There were nine ties and eight lead changes in the game. The biggest lead for either team was four points when the Lady Royals were up 31-27 early in the fourth quarter.

Mason County lead 34-32 lead with 1:59 left.

Harrison County tied the game on a putback by Sydney Morris with 1:10 to go.

After a Mason County turnover with 63 seconds left, the Fillies played for the last shot. 10th Region Player of the Year Madison Kellione milked the clock before passing the ball to Hatterick for the game-winning basket.

Mason County's half court heave at the buzzer was short.

Harrison County won despite shooting 26.5 percent from the field.

The Lady Royals used a box-and-one defense to hold Kellione to four points. Kellione averages 19.7 points a game and she poured in 29 points in Harrison County's 23-point win over Mason County in the regular season.

Hatterick led the Fillies in scoring tonight with 11 points. Trenyce Kenney came in off the bench and added 10 points.

Victoria Brooks and Emma Taylor led the Lady Royals in scoring with nine points apiece.

Lady Royals to Bishop Brossart 50-45 to advance in 10th Region Tournament

The Mason County Lady Royals outscored the Bishop Brossart Lady 'Stangs 17-10 in the fourth quarter for a 50-45 victory in the quarterfinal round of the 10th Region Tournament tonight at the Montgomery County High School Arena.

There were nine ties and 13 lead changes in the game.

Bishop Brossart led 35-33 at the end of the third quarter, but Mason County opened the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run and led the rest of the game. The Lady 'Stangs didn't score in the fourth quarter until the 1:42 mark.

The Lady Royals shot 9-of-13 (69.2 percent) from the field in the second half.

Emma Taylor led Mason County in scoring with 13 points. Victoria Brooks tossed in 10 points.

The Lady Royals will play the Harrison County Fillies in the semifinals Monday night. Harrison County defeated Bourbon County 66-44 in the opening game of the tournament.

Lady Royals advance with a 60-41 victory over Augusta

The Mason County Lady Royals shot just 29.2 percent from the field, but scored 35 points off Augusta's 30 turnovers and defeated the Lady Panthers 60-41 in the semifinals of the 39th District Tournament tonight at The Fieldhouse.

Mason County jumped out to a 12-0 lead and was up 17-5 at the end of the first quarter .

Emma Taylor led the Lady Royals in scoring with 15 points. Rachel Payne tossed in 11 points and Victoria Brooks added 10 points.

Lady Royals share the ball in a 61-39 victory over Holmes

Getting 19 assists on 25 field goals boosted the Mason County Lady Royals to a 61-39 victory over the Holmes Lady Bulldogs Friday night at The Fieldhouse.

The Lady Royals shot 68.2 percent from the field in the second half.

Emma Taylor was 8-of-12 from the field and scored 17 points. Sam Schumacher followed with 11 points and Rachel Payne made 4-of-6 shots from the field and scored 10 points.

Victoria Brooks dished out nine assists.

Lady Royals rout Greenup County, 64-34

The Mason County Lady Royals led 18-4 at the end of the first quarter on their way to a 64-34 road victory over the Greenup County Lady Musketeers tonight.

Greenup County only had nine made field goals and shot 23.5 percent.

The Lady Royals scored 26 points off the Lady Musketeers' 19 turnovers.

Haley White hit four three-pointers and scored a career-high 14 points. Emma Taylor tossed in 13 points. Roclynn Glover added a career-high 10 points.

Lady Royals blow 12-point lead, lose to Bourbon County, 54-52

The Mason County Lady Royals led 35-23 at the half, but lost to the Bourbon County Lady Colonels 54-52 tonight at The Fieldhouse.

The Lady Royals were up 46-39 with seven minutes left in the game, but did not score again until the 2:41 mark.

Mason County had a chance to tie the game, but missed four shots in the closing seconds.

Emma Taylor led the Lady Royals in scoring with 11 points. Sam Schumacher added 10 points.

Mason County plays at Greenup County Thursday night.

Mason County swept by Harrison County in a boys and girls DH

The Mason County Royals and Lady Royals were swept by Harrison County in a boys and girls doubleheader tonight in Cynthiana.

The Royals rallied from a 16-point third quarter deficit to tie the game with a minute to play, but lost to the Thorobreds, 75-70.
Harrison County's final eight points were on free throws.

The Lady Royals trailed the Fillies 22-8 at the end of the first quarter of a 72-49 loss.

Emma Taylor and Sam Schumacher led the Lady Royals in scoring with 13 points apiece.

The Royals were led in scoring by Jeremiah Jones with a career-high 23 points. Carson Brammer scored 12 points. Jake Swolsky tossed in 11 points and Xylon Frey added 10 points.

Tuesday night is Senior Night at Mason County. The Lady Royals play the Bourbon County Lady Colonels, followed by the Royals against the Bishop Brossart Mustangs.

Mason County sweeps DH vs Fleming County

The Mason County Lady Royals and Royals both posted lopsided wins over Fleming County in a doubleheader at Fleming County tonight.

The Lady Royals had a 16-point lead at the half and led by as many as 24 points in the fourth quarter on their way to a 65-44 victory over the Lady Panthers.

The Royals made 11-of-16 shots in the third quarter of a 74-64 win over the Panthers. It's Mason County's 20th straight victory over Fleming County.

The Royals shot 45.9 percent for the game, breaking a streak of six straight games under 40 percent.

Jaylen Lofton and Xylon Frey both had double-doubles. Lofton scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Frey had 16 points and 12 rebounds. Jeremiah Jones tossed in 15 points and Carson Brammer added 10 points.

The Lady Royals were led in scoring by Victoria Brooks and Emma Taylor with 16 points apiece. Rachel Payne added 11 points.

Mason County plays Harrison County in a boys and girls doubleheader in Cynthiana Saturday. The boys' game is first at 5 p.m.

Taylor leads Lady Royals to a road win over Frederick Douglass

Emma Taylor scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Mason County Lady Royals to a 57-44 victory over Frederick Douglass tonight in Lexington.

Victoria Brooks scored 16 points and Sam Schumacher added 10 points. Rachel Payne had 10 rebounds.

The Mason County Lady Royals rallied from a 16-point third quarter deficit to beat the Boone County Lady Rebels 61-55 tonight in Florence.

The Lady Royals outscored the Lady Rebels 21-8 in the fourth quarter.

Mason County shot 58.7 percent from the field.

Lady Royals routed by Scott in Section 3 semis of Kentucky 2A Championships

The Mason County Lady Royals fell behind by 19 points in the first quarter and were routed by the Scott Eagles 83-55 in the Section 3 semifinals of the Kentucky 2A Championships tonight at The Fieldhouse.

Scott scored 44 points off Mason County's 30 turnovers. The Lady Royals committed 13 turnovers in the first quarter.

The Lady Eagles had a 17-0 run in the first quarter and a 15-0 run in the second quarter and led 55-26 at the half.

Scott sophomore Mya Meredith scored 26 of her game-high 37 points in the first half. She had 13 rebounds.

Scott led by as many as 34 points in the fourth quarter.

Sam Schumacher had a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds for Mason County. Emma Taylor added 14 points.

Lady Royals snap two-game losing streak with road win over Nicholas County

The Mason County Lady Royals snapped a two-game losing streak with a 50-31 victory over the Nicholas County Lady Jackets this afternoon in Carlisle.

After trailing 10-8 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Royals outscored the Lady Jackets 19-9 in the second quarter and 13-4 in the third quarter.

Victoria Brooks had a game-high 15 points for Mason County.
Emma Taylor added 12 points.

The Mason County Lady Royals only made two field goals in the first half and trailed 39-13 at the half in a 65-45 loss to the Bethlehem Banshees tonight in the championship game of the Plan B Apparel 2018 Holiday Classic at Bourbon County.

Bethlehem led by as many as 29 points in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Royals shot 12-of-48 (25 percent) from the field for the game including 1-of-10 on three-pointers.

Lady Royals advance to tourney finals with a 67-66 win over St. Henry

The Mason County Lady Royals held off St. Henry's fourth quarter rally and advanced to the championship game of the Plan B Apparel 2018 Holiday Classic at Bourbon County with a 67-66 victory in the semifinals tonight.

The Lady Royals led by as many as 13 points in fourth quarter. St. Henry closed to within three at 66-63. Victoria Brooks made one-of-two free throws and St. Henry hit a meaningless three-pointer at the buzzer.

Brooks scored a game-high 17 points. Emma Taylor followed with 16 points and Sam Schumacher had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Mason County will play Bethlehem Banshees in the championship game Saturday at 7:15 p.m.

Lady Royals hang on a for 50-47 win over Bishop Brossart

The Mason County Lady Royals let a seven-point fourth quarter lead slip away, but hung on for a 50-47 win over the Bishop Brossart Lady 'Stangs tonight in the US Bank Mike Murphy Classic at The Fieldhouse.

Mason County led 40-33. Bishop Brossart, which entered the game undefeated, rallied to tie the game at 40-40, but the Lady Royals answered with an 8-0 run.

Mason County was up 50-44 in the closing seconds before Bishop Brossart hit a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Emma Taylor scored a game-high 18 points for Mason County.

Mason County sweeps Bracken County in girls and boys DH at The Fieldhouse

Both the Mason County Lady Royals and Royals used full-court pressure and big first half scoring runs on their way to routs over Bracken County tonight at The Fieldhouse.

The Lady Royals had a 20-0 run in a 70-35 victory over the Lady Bears.

The Royals had a 19-2 run and defeated the Polar Bears 73-40 to snap a four-game, season-opening losing streak. The Royals have won 25 straight games against the Polar Bears.

In the girls' game, Mason County scored 30 points off Bracken County's 28 turnovers.

The Lady Royals were led in scoring by Victoria Brooks and Emma Taylor with 11 points apiece. Rachel Payne added 10 points.

Kennedy Carl scored 22 points for the Lady Bears.

Turnovers were also a key statistic in the boys' game. The Royals scored 20 points off the Polar Bears' 21 turnovers. Mason County had 15 turnovers, its second fewest of the season. 

The Royals had 17 assists. They shot 62.1 percent from the field in the second half.

Jaylen Lofton scored a game-high 21 points. Xyon Frey scored 15 points and Carson Brammer added 10 points.

Lady Royals lose to NewCath in Donna Murphy Classic

The Mason County Lady Royals were outscored 16-7 in the third quarter of a 57-48 loss to the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds this afternoon in the Donna Murphy Classic at Newport High School.

Both teams shot 41.7 percent from the field and Mason County five more field goals than NewCath, but the Thoroughbreds hit 6-of-14 three-pointers and were 21-of-40 from the free throw line. The Lady Royals were 0-of-5 from beyond the arc and 8-of-14 on foul shots.

There were five ties and four lead changes in the game.

Mason County was led in scoring by Rachel Payne and Sam Schumacher with 11 points apiece. Emma Taylor added 10 points.

Lady Royals rout Lady Bears for District title

The Mason County Lady Royals scored 19 straight points in the first quarter and routed the Bracken County Lady Bears 71-21 in the championship game of the 39th District Tournament tonight at The Fieldhouse.

It's the Lady Royals' fourth consecutive district title.

Mason County led 25-4 at the end of the first quarter, 43-14 at the half and 60-18 at the end of the third quarter.

The Lady Royals shot 52.7 percent from field for the game and scored 32 points off the Lady Bears' 28 turnovers.

Bracken County only had five field goals in the game.

Emma Taylor led Mason County in scoring with 16 points.

Victoria Brooks followed with 14 points and Kara Moran added 11 points.

Kennedy Carl was Bracken County's leading scorer with 11 points.

The Mason County Lady Royals jumped out to a 16-0 lead and scored 20 points off Augusta's 16 first quarter turnovers on their way to a 74-29 victory over the Lady Panthers tonight in the upper bracket semifinal game of the 39th District Tournament at The Fieldhouse.

 Mason County led 25-4 at the end of the first quarter and 52-9 at the half.

The second half was played with a running clock.

Victoria Brooks and AJ Reed led the Lady Royals in scoring with 13 points apiece.

Emma Taylor followed with 12 points and Kara Moran added 10 points.

Katie Stanton and Alexis Shields each scored 10 points for the Lady Panthers.

The Mason County Lady Royals jumped out to a 16-0 lead and had a 21-0 in the third quarter on their way to a 72-29 victory over the Bourbon County Lady Colonels tonight in Paris.

The Lady Royals shot 58.8 percent from the field, had 23 assists, 20 steals and scored 32 points off Bourbon County's 26 turnovers.
