Royals golf Bryson Bennett named Region 12 Coach of the Year

Mason County Royals golf coach Bryson Bennett has been named Region 12 Coach of the Year.

The Royals won the Beechwood Invitational, the Region 12 Preview and the Kentucky 2A Championships Section 6 title.

They were the Region 12 runners-up, finished fifth at both the Kentucky 2A Championships state tournament and the Winchester site of the First Round of the State Tournament.

Gardner, Crabtree and Owens receive All-Region honors

Mason County senior golfers Noah Gardner, Jaxen Crabtree and Cole Owens have received All-Region honors from the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association.

Gardner and Crabtree were named to the First Team while Owens made the Second Team.

The honors are based on points accumulated during the season. 

Gardner finished with 525 points, Crabtree tallied 360 points and Owens earned 325 points.

Owens finished third, Gardner sixth and Crabtree ninth in the 12th Region Tournament.

The Royals were the region runners-up, finished fifth in the First Round of the KHSAA state golf tournament and fifth at the Kentucky 2A Championships state tournament.

Feldhaus T7, Madison Central runner-up at boys' state golf championship

Madison Central senior Jake Feldhaus tied for seventh place at the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac Boys State Golf Championship on Saturday and helped the Indians secure a runner-up finish.

Feldhaus shot a two-day total of 2-over par 146. Madison Central, the three-time defending champion, finished seven shots behind the St. Xavier Tigers who won their 22nd state championship.

Sydney Ullery named Second Team All-Region

Mason County junior golfer Sydney Ullery has been named Second Team All-Region by the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association. 

Ullery was the Lady Royals' No. 1 golfer. She was the medalist at the Kentucky 2A Championships Section 6 Tournament and finished eighth in the KHSAA Region 12 Tournament. Ullery led Mason County to an eighth place finish at the 2A state tournament.

Royals' season ends with a fifth place finish at the First Round of the state golf tournament

The Mason County Royals' season came to an end on Tuesday with a fifth-place finish at the First Round of the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac State Golf Championships at Winchester Country Club.

The Royals had a team score of 314. 

Madison Central took first place (296), Rockcastle County was second (309) and Pulaski County finished third (310). Those three teams advance to the finals at Bowling Green Country Club.

Mason County was led by Noah Gardner with a 77. Slate Brammer shot a 78, Jaxen Crabtree followed with a 79, Cole Owens carded an 80 and Lennox Hughes shot an 86.

The top four scores are used for the team score.

Lady Royals finish in seventh place at First Round of the state golf tournament

The Mason County Lady Royals had a team score of 416 and finished in seventh place at the First Round of the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac State Golf Championships on Monday at Winchester Country Club.

Only the top three teams: Lexington Christian (304), Madison Central (311) and Montgomery County (341) and the 15 individuals not on a top three team advance to the finals at Bowling Green Country Club.

Sydney Ullery led Mason County with an 87.

Laurel Oaks wins inaugural Burley Cup

Laurel Oaks Golf Course won the inaugural Burley Cup over Pendleton Hills Country Club by a score of 14-10 on Sunday.

Laurel Oaks had a 6.5 to 5.5 lead after the Chapman Alternate Shot and Best-Ball rounds on Saturday at Pendleton Hills in Butler.

The 12 singles matches were played on Sunday at Laurel Oaks with the home team winning 7.5 points. Here are the singles results:

Tee times set for First Round state golf tournaments

Tee times are set for the three sites of the First Round of the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac State Golf Championships.

The Mason County Lady Royals and Royals will be playing at Winchester Country Club.

The girls will play on Monday, the boys on Tuesday.

The top three teams from each of the First Round sites will advance to the finals at Bowling Green Country Club.

Royals are region runners-up, will move on to the First Round of the state tournament

The Mason County Royals shot a 306 to finish as the runners-up of the Region 12 Tournament on Wednesday at Laurel Oaks Golf Course. 

The Rowan County Vikings won the region championship with a score of 305. The Lawrence County Bulldogs took third place at 307.

Only the winner and runner-up move on to the First Round of the state tournament on September 30 at Winchester Country Club.

Cole Owens led Mason County with a 73. Noah Gardner shot a 75, Jaxen Crabtree a 76, Lennox Hughes an 82 and Slate Brammer an 84.

The top four scores are used for the team total.

Lawrence County senior Reese Hughes shot a 3-under par 69 to win the individual championship.

Ben Rickey of Fleming County shot a 71 and advances to the First Round of the state tournament as an individual qualifier.

Two St. Patrick golfers played as individuals. Abi Ignacio shot a 107 and Gus Rechtin posted a 111.

Lady Royals runners-up at region, qualified for the first round of the state golf tournament

The Mason County Lady Royals qualified for the first round of the state golf tournament by finishing as the runner-up at the Region 12 Tournament on Monday at Eagle Trace Golf Course in Morehead.

The Montgomery County Lady Indians won the region championship with a team of score 331.

Mason County finished with a score of 386, edging the Boyd County Lady Lions by two shots.

Only the champion and runner-up advance to the first round of the state tournament.

Sydney Ullery led the Lady Royals with an 87 followed by Bentley Shepherd (90), Olivia Hughes (102), Amirah Reed (107) and Taylor Schroer (121).

The top four scores are used for the team total.

The first round of the state tournament will be played on Monday at Winchester Country Club.

Volleyball, golf and soccer recaps

The Mason County Lady Royals volleyball team had its five-match winning streak snapped by a 3-0 loss to the Nicholas County Lady Jackets on Tuesday night in Carlisle.

The set scores were 25-14, 25-11 and  25-9.

Halle Pfeffer had 17 digs and Hayley Allison had 16 digs.

Mason County (10-8) will host St. Patrick on Thursday night.

The Mason County Lady Royals shot a 180 and was edged by the Pendleton County Lady Wildcats by one shot at Laurel Oaks Golf Course on Tuesday.

Sydney Ullery led the Lady Royals with a 42. Bentley Shepherd shot a 43, Olivia Hughes a 46 and Taylor Schroer a 49.

The Lady Royals golf team will compete vs. Bath County, Rowan County, Fleming County and Ashland at Eagle Trace on Thursday.

The Mason County Royals soccer team was shutout by the Russell Red Devils on Tuesday night at Mason County.

The Royals (5-7) will host Calvary Christian next Tuesday night.

Royals fifth, Lady Royals eighth at Kentucky 2A Championships state golf tournament

The Mason County Royals took fifth place and the Lady Royals finished in eighth place at the Kentucky 2A Championships on Monday at Owensboro Country Club.

The Royals had a team score of 327. Louisville Christian Academy won the boys' championship with a score of 302.

The Lady Royals posted a score of 415. Franklin County won the girls' championship with a score of 341.

Noah Gardner and Jaxen Crabtree led the Royals with 81s. Cole Owens shot an 82, Slate Brammer an 83 and Lennox Hughes an 86.

Sydney Ullery led the Lady Royals with a 92.

Royals finish 13th at The Danny Spillman BGIT

The Mason County Royals shot a 331 and finished in 13th place at The Danny Spillman Bowling Green Invitational Tournament on Saturday at Bowling Green Country Club, the site of the final round of the KHSAA State Championships.

Jaxen Crabtree led the Royals with a 78. He was followed by Cole Owens (79), Lennox Hughes (85), Slate Brammer (89) and Logan Crockett (98).

Madison Central had the top three individuals including Jake Feldhaus (T2 with a 69) and won with a team score of 281.

Mason County will play in the Kentucky 2A Championships state tournament on Monday at Owensboro Country Club.

Ullery is medalist as the Lady Royals win a tri-match vs. Pendleton County and Fleming County

Sydney Ullery shot a 38 to claim medalist honors as the Mason County Lady Royals defeated Pendleton County and Fleming County in a tri-match on Wednesday at Laurel Oaks Golf Course.

Mason County had a team score of 175. Olivia Hughes shot a 43, Bentley Shepherd a 45 and Amirah Reed and Taylor Schroer each carded 49s.

The Lady Royals will play in the Kentucky 2A Championships state tournament on Monday at Owensboro Country Club.

Inaugural Burley Cup scheduled between Laurel Oaks and Pendleton Hills

Teams from Laurel Oaks Golf Course in Maysville and Pendleton Hills Country Club in Butler will square off in the inaugural Burley Cup on September 27 and 28.

On Saturday, September 27 Pendleton Hills will host four Best-Ball matches and four Chapman Alternate Shot matches.

On Sunday, September 28 Laurel Oaks will host four Chapman Alternate Shot matches followed by 12 singles matches.

The first team to secure 12.5 points will be the winner.

40-under par 100 is the winning score in the Super Scramble at Kenton Station Golf Course

The team of Josh Stafford, David Mitchell, Gary McKinney, Terron Routt, David Francis and Brooks Herrold won the Super Scramble at Kenton Station Golf Course with a 36-hole total of 40-under par 100.

They had rounds of 49 and 51. Three teams tied for second place at 103.

Tyler Lippert wins club championship at Griffin Gate Golf Club

Former Mason County High School and Eastern Kentucky University golfer Tyler Lippert won the men's club championship at Griffin Gate Golf Club in Lexington on Sunday. 

Lippert had rounds of 74 and 68 for a 36-hole total of 2-under 142 and a four-shot win.

Royals shoot a 324 at Harrison County Invitational

The Mason County Royals shot a 324 at the Harrison County Invitational on Sunday at Houston Oaks Golf Course in Paris.

Slate Brammer shot a 79 to lead the Royals. Jaxen Crabtree and Noah Gardner both shot 81s followed by Cole Owens with an 83 and Lennox Hughes with an 86.

Mason County will play in the 5-Star Invitational on September 1 at Picadome Golf Course in Lexington.

Royals win Region 12 Preview at Laurel Oaks

The Mason County Royals had a team score of 300 and won the Region 12 Preview on Saturday at Laurel Oaks Golf Course.

Cole Owens led the Royals with a 1-over 73 and finished second in the individual standings.

Noah Gardner tied for third place with a 74. Jaxen Crabtree shot a 75 followed by Slate Brammer with a 78 and Lennox Hughes with a 79.

The Royals will travel to Paris on Sunday for the Harrison County Invitational at Houston Oaks Golf Course.
