Four Mason County athletes qualify for state bass fishing tournament

Four Mason County athletes have qualified for the state bass fishing tournament. 

Leyton Lennox and Rayden McRoberts finished in fourth place and Hunter Buttery and Carter Roark took 12th place at the Region 4 Tournament on Lake Herrington on Saturday.

Lennox and McRoberts caught five fish weighing 12 pounds, eight ounces. Buttery and Roark reeled in three fish weighing seven pounds,15 ounces.

The top 16 boats qualified for the 2025 Operation UNITE/KHSAA State Bass Fishing Championship May 8-10 on Lake Cumberland.

This is the first season for bass fishing at Mason County. The Royals are coached by Steven Truesdell.

Steven Truesdell named bass fishing head coach at MCHS


Bass fishing has been added to the list of sports offered at Mason County High School and Steven Truesdell was named the head coach of the team on Friday.

Truesdell, a 2005 graduate of Mason County High School, is the head coach of the Mason County Middle School football program.

Bass fishing, which is a spring sport, was first sanctioned by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association during the 2012-13 school year.
