Holmes Rolls Past Mason County 41-6

The Holmes Bulldogs racked up 519 yards of total offense on their way to a 41-6 rout of the Mason County Royals tonight in Covington. Mason County only had 166 yards of offense and fell to 0-8.

Holmes running back Andrew Arnold rushed for 108 yards and three touchdowns, Wingback Salih Abdullah ran for 99 yards and one touchdown. Quarterback Desean Brumfield completed 4 of 6 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown.

Holmes led 27-0 at the half and 41-0 with 3:58 left in the third quarter to force a running clock.

Jaylen Lofton scored Mason County's only touchdown on a three-yard run with 2:53 remaining in the game. Lofton had a 20-yard reception and a 25-yard run on the scoring drive.

Mason County's injury woes continued with Michael Vacik, Tykeise Henry, Leevi Dunaway and Malkolm Devine leaving the game with injuries.

The Royals play their final home of the season next Friday night against the West Union Dragons.

Royals vs. Bulldogs for a Playoff Spot

A playoff spot is on the line when the Mason County Royals play the Holmes Bulldogs in Covington tonight.

Mason County is 0-7 overall and 0-3 in district play. Holmes is 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the district. Tonight's winner will clinch fourth place in the district. The top four teams in each district qualify for the playoffs.

Through the first six games, Holmes senior running back Andrew Arnold had rushed for 604 yards and 10 touchdowns. (Holmes did not submit last week's statistics to the KHSAA).

Holmes senior quarterback Desean Brumfield is a three-year starter. Through the first six games, Brumfield had passed for 461 yards and one touchdown. He had thrown eight interceptions. Last season, he passed for 1,321 yards.

Mason County sophomore running back Malkolm Devine has rushed for a touchdown in each of the last two games. He started the season as a wide receiver.

It's Homecoming at Holmes. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Notes:
- This is the first meeting between Mason County and Holmes.
- The Royals and Bulldogs have played two common opponents. Mason County lost to Bourbon County 30-14 and lost to Harrison County 29-7. Holmes lost to Bourbon County 41-14 and lost to Harrison County 25-14.
- Holmes has wins over Walton-Verona (15-14) and Bellevue (41-0).
