It will be the 35th meeting between the two storied programs. Lexington Catholic leads the series 20-14.

November 23, 1973 at The Fieldhouse
Mason County 79, Lexington Catholic 71
In the first meeting between the two schools, Greg Murphy scored 29 points to lead the Royals to their fourth straight win to open the 1973-74 season. Danny Haney, who would go on to coach Lexington Catholic to the 2002 state championship, led the Knights in scoring with 24 points.
November 24, 1974 at Lexington Catholic
Lexington Catholic 70, Mason County 65
Five Knights scored in double figures, with John Feitman leading the way with 18 points. Mason County was led in scoring by Tony Breeze with 16 points and Greg Murphy with 14 points.
November 28, 1975 at The Fieldhouse
Lexington Catholic 84, Mason County 66
Jeff Haney scored 26 points to lead the Knights to the lopsided victory. The loss snapped the Royals' two-game winning streak to start the season under new coach Allen Feldhaus. Ricky O'Cull was Mason County's leading scorer with 17 points.

The leading scorers were Chris Gallagher for the Knights with 16 points and Joe Pollitt for the Royals with 18 points.

Mike Botkin poured in 22 points to lead the Knights to another blowout win. Joe Pollitt led the Royals in scoring again with 17 points.
November 28, 1978 at Lexington Catholic

Calvin Thomas tossed in 23 points as the Royals snapped a five-game losing streak in the series. Mark Starns, who would go to serve as an assistant coach at Mason County, scored four points for the Knights.
December 4, 1979 at The Fieldhouse

Kerry Bolin scored 24 points for the Knights and Mike Thomas tossed in 23 points for the Royals.
December 2, 1980 at Lexington Catholic
Mason County 72, Lexington Catholic 68
Charlie Jackson scored a game-high 18 points in the first of 28 victories for Mason County in the 1980-81 season. The Royals made their first trip to the state tournament that season and were state runners-up to Simon Kenton.
December 1, 1981 at The Fieldhouse
Mason County 80, Lexington Catholic 72
Kelly Middleton, Mason County's only returning starter, scored 30 points to lead the Royals to a season-opening victory. The Royals were 25-0 in the regular season and suffered their only loss of the season in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament to finish with a 31-1 record.

Before he coached the Royals, Chris O'Hearn scored a lot of points as a player including 30 in this victory in his junior season,
March 20, 1985 at Rupp Arena

The Royals and Knights didn't play each other in the regular season, but they met in the opening round of the 1985 state tournament. Lexington Catholic center Frank Kornet only played 18 minutes before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Chris O'Hearn scored a game-high 26 points for the Royals. Deron Feldhaus had a double-double with 20 points and 18 rebounds. It was the final game for Tommy Starns in his second tenure as the Knights' head coach.

Mason County 80, Lexington Catholic 67
Shawn Myrick scored 29 points to lead the Royals to the victory over the No.1 ranked Knights in the semifinals of the Bluegrass Festival Tournament.
December 18, 1993 at Fairdale
Mason County 89, Lexington Catholic 67
Shawn Myrick was the leading scorer again, this time with 24 points, as the Royals routed the Knights in the opening round of the King of the Bluegrass Tournament. VonDale Morton was Lexington Catholic's leading scorer with 17 points.

Lexington Catholic 91, Mason County 80
Shawn Fields scored 29 points and David Graves added 22 points to lead the Knights to the victory, snapping Mason County's six-game winning streak in the series. Tony Thomas was the Royals' leading scorer with a career-high 25 points.

Don Offutt scored 30 points to lead the Knights to the win.

After trailing by 13 points in the third quarter, the Royals rallied to take a five-point lead with 1:55 left in the fourth quarter, but the Knights scored the last seven points to pull out the victory. Brandon Woody scored a game-high 21 points for the Knights. Seth Faulkner hit six three-pointers and scored 19 points for Mason County. Former University of Kentucky coach Joe B. Hall stopped by the scorer's table to find out how many three-pointers Faulkner had made.
January 27, 2001 at The Fieldhouse

The Knights rallied from a 14-point deficit to get the win in the Royal Showcase. Ryan Morton scored a game-high 22 points for the Knights. Chris Lofton led the Royals in scoring with 19 points.
January 15, 2002 at Lexington Catholic
Lexington Catholic 73, Mason County 66
Chris Lofton scored a game-high 27 points, but the Knights had four players score in double figures led by Demetrius Green with 16 points. Lexington Catholic went on to win the state championship with a 33-2 record.

Mason County shot 62 percent from the field and Chris Lofton and Nathan Myrick scored 22 points apiece to lead the Royals to the victory in the championship game of the Fifth Third Bank Kentucky Holiday Classic. The Knights were led in scoring by Demetrius Green with 22 points and Harrison Morton with 21. Mason County went on to win the state championship with a 35-2 record.

Fans packed The Fieldhouse and saw the Knights edge the Royals despite a 25-point game by Chris Lofton. The loss snapped Mason County's 12-game winning streak, but the Royals ended the season with 18 straight victories and won their first state championship with a 35-2 record.

In front of a sold-out, standing room only crowd for the championship game of the Fifth Third Bank Kentucky Holiday Classic, Chris Lofton hit a 30-footer at the buzzer to send the game to overtime. Lofton ended up with 32 points. Dustin Grutza had a double-double with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Harrison Morton scored 25 points for the Knights.
January 23, 2004 at Memorial Coliseum
Lexington Catholic 82, Mason County 75
After fans were turned away from the December game at Lexington Catholic, this game was moved to Memorial Coliseum and televised by WKYT. Mason County led by 10 at halftime, but the Knights outscored the Royals 32-18 in the third quarter. Lexington Catholic sophomore Brian Hewitt came off the bench and hit three three-pointers in the fourth quarter. Chris Lofton scored a game-high 25 points. William Graham led the Knights in scoring with 20 points.

Wesley Jones scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Royals to the victory.

January 18, 2008 at Memorial Coliseum
Mason County 74, Lexington Catholic 73
In another televised game at Memorial Coliseum, Taylor Stewart drained a three-pointer to give the Knights a 73-72 lead with 8.6 seconds left in the game, Darius Miller hit a last second shot in the lane to give the Royals the victory. Trevor Setty led Mason County in scoring with 25 points. Miller added 18 points. Stewart ended up with 25 points for the Knights. Mason County went on to win its second state championship with a 34-4 record.
January 16, 2009 at The Fieldhouse
Lexington Catholic 64, Mason County 61 OT
Russ Middleton hit a buzzer beater to send the game to overtime, but the Knights outscored the Royals 6-3 in the extra period.
Vee Sanford led Lexington Catholic in scoring with 22 points.
Mason County sophomore Treg Setty scored a game-high 29 points and had 17 rebounds.
December 20, 2010 at Iolani School in Hawaii
Lexington Catholic 83, Mason County 59
The Knights scored 27 points off the Royals' 17 turnovers in the consolation bracket of the Iolani Prep Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii. Tyler Black scored a game-high 25 points for the Royals.

Shawn Johnson scored 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead the Royals to the win.

Peter Whitman and Blake Scott combined for 55 points for the Knights. Whitman had a double-double with 31 points and 13 rebounds. Scott hit six three-pointers and scored 24 points. Leevi Dunaway had a double-double for the Royals with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Last season's game was canceled due to inclement weather. The next chapter in the series will be written Monday night.
