Maysville resident John Bess will run the virtual Boston Marathon on Labor Day and he invites other runners to join him along his route.
Bess qualified for the 124th running of the Boston Marathon, but the race was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bess will start running at 7 a.m. on Monday at Limestone Landing. His 26.2 mile route will take him across both the William Harsha Bridge and the Simon Kenton Memorial Bridge, a lap around the lake at the Maysville-Mason County Recreation Park, down Hill City Road, the east and west ends of Maysville, ending at Market Street.
Bess plans to run between an eight-minute and nine-minute mile pace. He invites runners to join him wherever they feel comfortable.
All qualified runners who complete the virtual marathon within a six-hour time period and have proof of their time will receive an official Boston Marathon program, t-shirt, medal and runner's bib.
