Royals hit the road again to play the Boyd County Lions

The Mason County Royals, off to a 3-0 start, will travel to Cannonsburg on Friday to play the Boyd County Lions in their third road game in as many weeks.

Boyd County is 2-1 with victories over South Point, OH (38-0) and East Carter (36-14) sandwiched around a 36-31 road loss to Bell County.

Mason County and Boyd County both prefer to move the ball through the air. The starting quarterbacksTeegin Routt for the Royals and Rhett Holbrook for the Lionsare ranked No.4 and No. 5, respectively, in passing yards per game in Class 4A.

Routt has completed 42 of 71 passes for 751 yards with 10 touchdowns and two interceptions. He passed for 333 yards and four touchdowns with two interceptions in Saturday's victory over Fleming County.

Rhett has completed 49 of 76 passes for 744 yards with eight interceptions and no interceptions. Holbrook threw for 269 yards and three touchdowns in last week's win over East Carter.

Boyd County defeated Mason County twice last season:  45-21 in the regular season and 14-7 in the opening round of the Class 4A playoffs.
