In a defensive battle in the opening round of the Class 4A football playoffs, the Mason County Royals lost to the Boyd County Lions 14-7 Friday night at Mason County.
Boyd County led 14-0 at the half.
Mason County scored in the fourth quarter on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Teegin Routt to Landon Scilley.
The Lions defense stopped the Royals three times inside the Boyd County 10 yard line: twice in the second quarter and once in the third quarter.
It was the Royals’ third straight loss. They finished the season with a 6-5 record.
