Royals beat Butler 70-56 in MCIT semifinals

Terrell Henry had 26 points and seven rebounds, Riley Mastin had 17 points and six rebounds and Braylon Hamilton added 12 points and the Mason County defeated the Butler Bears 70-56 in the semifinals of the Mason County Invitational Tournament on Wednesday night.

There were three ties and six lead changes early in the game before the Royals led 19-14 at the end of the first quarter and built an 18-point lead in the second quarter. They took their first 20-point lead at 55-35 in the third quarter.

Mason County (8-0) shot 61 percent from the field, including 66.7 percent in the second half. It's the second straight game the Royals have shot better than 60 percent from the field.

Henry was 10-of-12 from the field, including 1-of-2 on 3-pointers, and 5-of-5 from the free throw line.

McCracken County beat Henry Clay 53-47 in the other semifinal, but with the threat of winter weather and a five-hour drive back to Paducah, the Mustangs headed home after the game. That means Mason County will not play on Thursday. The Royals will return to action on Tuesday night vs. Bracken County in the White, Greer and Maggard Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic.

There other games will be played in the MCIT on Thursday: Augusta vs. Greenwood at 11 a.m., Henry Clay vs. Butler at 12:30 p.m. and Highlands vs. Fleming County at 2 p.m.
