Mason County kept it close for a half, but a lopsided third quarter doomed the Royals in a 64-45 loss to the Cooper Jaguars on Saturday afternoon in the 9th vs. 10th Hardwood Classic at Augusta.
Mason County fell behind 11-2 in the first four minutes, then closed the gap to 15-13 before Cooper scored the last six points of the first quarter.
The Royals got back to within two at 25-23 and had a chance to tie the game or take the lead, but missed a 3-pointer and the Jaguars made a trey to end the half.
Cooper opened the second half with a 23-2 run to lead 51-25. The Jaguars outscored the Royals 25-11 in the third quarter.
Cooper (16-7) shot 65 percent from the field in the second half and 50 percent for the game.
Mason County (14-9) shot 37.2 percent from the field for the game.
The Jaguars outrebounded the Royals 39-18.
Jake Feldhaus led Mason County in scoring with 19 points. Braeden Myrick followed with 10 points.
The Royals will host the Bishop Brossart Mustangs on Thursday night.
