The Mason County Royals outlasted the Lexington Catholic Knights 73-68 in double overtime in the U.S. Bank Classic tonight at The Fieldhouse. Lexington Catholic beat Mason County 85-60 in the girls' game.
The Royals led by 14 midway through the third quarter, but trailed 55-50 with 4:55 left in regulation. Trevor Setty scored five straight points to tie the game, and the Royals had a chance to win in regulation but missed a three-pointer. The Knights played for the last shot in overtime but Nathan Novesel's shot was blocked by Darius Miller. Setty missed a heave at the buzzer. The Royals outscored the Knights 11-6 in the second overtime, making five of six free throws. Miller led Mason County with 24 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots. Setty scored 17 and Middleton added 16.
Taylor Stewart led Lexington Catholic with 16 points.
The Lady Royals gave the top-ranked Lady Knights a game for a half. There were five ties and seven lead changes. Lexington Catholic led by six halftime and outscored Mason County 17-10 in the third quarter and 27-15 in the fourth quarter. Lacey Cline and De'Sarae Chambers each scored 17 points to lead Mason County. Torrey Chambers added 11 points. Briana Green scored a game-high 24 for the Lady Knights.
