Mason County 69, Jeffersontown 64 OT

The Mason County Royals rallied from an eight point third quarter deficit and beat defending state champion Jeffersontown 69-64 tonight in the Kentucky Preps Classic at Montgomery County. J-town led 38-30 with 1:49 left in the third quarter. Tony Browning then hit back-to-back three-pointers. Royals coach Chris O'Hearn said that was the turning point. Mason County led 51-47 late in the fourth quarter but
J-Town's Nick Gagel scored hit a three-pointer and lay-up to put the Chargers up 52-51. Russ Middleton hit one of two free throws with five seconds left to tie the game.
J-Town tried to get the ball to its 6-9 center Thomas Coleman but the pass hit the backboard, Middleton grabbed the loose and missed a heave at the buzzer. Middleton hit seven of eight free throws in the overtime period. Darius Miller scored 19 points, had five rebounds, nine assists and blocked three shots. He was named the Outstanding Player of the Game. Middleton scored 16 points, Browning 15 and Trevor Setty 13. The Royals are back in action Friday night at home against Montgomery County.
