Mason County track and field teams open the outdoor season with a sweep

The Mason County girls' and boys' track and field teams opened the outdoor season on Saturday by sweeping the Rowan County All Comers meet.

The Lady Royals finished with 212 points. Ignite Athletes were the runners-up with 128 points.

The Royals totaled 149 points. The Fleming County Panthers took second place with 80 points.

"The wind was a challenge but our athletes performed very well under the circumstances," coach Mark Kachler wrote in an email messagec

First place finishes by Mason County athletes include:

  • Amirah Reed, girls' 100 meter hurdles (18.00)
  • CJ Arthur, boys' 100 meter dash (11.81)
  • Dashawn Overly, boys' 1600 meter run (4:43.88), boys' 3200 meter run (10:17.79)
  • Ed Brannon, boys' 800 meter run (2:10.19)
  • Lexi Young, girls' high jump (5-06.00)
  • Ava Thompson, girls' pole vault (10-00.00)
  • Keenan Galloway, boys' pole vault, (11-00.00)
  • Madison Howard, girls' triple jump (31-09.00)
  • Makaylynn Crabtree, girls' discus throw (95-05.50)
  • The girls' 4x100 meter relay team of Lexi Young, Amirah Reed, Adrienne Downs-Perry and Madison Howard (51.08)
  • The girls' 4x400 meter relay team of Kolby Galloway, Ava Thompson, Sarah Payne and Cece Hiatt (4:31.59)
  • The boys' 4x400 meter relay team of John Yazell, Shawn Hardin, Juan Carlos and Noah Ard (3:57.05)
  • The girls' 800 sprint medley team of Haven Hamilton, Amirah Reed, Cece Hiatt and Brooklyn Young (2:08.51)
  • The boys' distance medley team of Elijah Reed, Kirk Marquise, Ed Brannon and Dashawn Overly (11:31.58)
