The Mason County Royals fell behind in the first quarter and were routed by the Conner Cougars 81-57 on Sunday afternoon in the Scott Winter Classic.
Mason County (5-2) led 10-4 early, but Conner (5-3) reeled off 14 straight points to start a 23-5 run that gave the Cougars a 27-15 lead.
The Royals closed the gap to three at 29-26 with 4:53 remaining in the second quarter, but Conner answered with an 11-0 spurt and ended the half on a 13-1 run to lead 42-27.
The Cougars scored the first seven points of the third quarter to extend their lead to 22 points. Conner was up 63-38 at the end of the quarter and led by as many as 30 points in the fourth quarter.
Conner scored 27 points off of Mason County's 19 turnovers, and the Cougars outshot the Royals 58.6% to 36.8% from the field.
Cole Horch led Mason County in scoring with 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Braeden Myrick added 12 points.
The Royals will return to Scott High on Monday afternoon to play the Iroquois Raiders at 2 p.m.
