The Mason County Royals edged the Powell County Pirates 6-5 in their season opener on Wednesday in Stanton.
Cray Fite was the winning pitcher, allowing one run on one hit while walking four and striking out four. Landon Scilley picked up the save, striking out five in two innings of work.
Eli Porter had double and three RBI. Fite had two RBI.
The Royals travel to Lexington today to play the Lafayette Generals at 6:30 p.m.
