An 18-point deficit was too much for the Mason County Royals to overcome in a 73-65 loss to the Conner Cougars on Friday night at The Fieldhouse.
Eight of the Royals' 12 turnovers were in the first half and they trailed 24-15 with 5:20 remaining in the second quarter. Mason County pulled to within one point at 28-27, but the Cougars answered and headed to the locker room at halftime up 36-29.
Conner extended the lead to 49-31 with a little more than five minutes left in the third quarter and led 58-44 after three quarters. Mason County closed to within five points at 70-65 with 24 seconds left in the game and got a defensive stop, but missed a shot from 3-point range.
Four Royals scored in double figures. Braylon Hamilton made five 3-pointers and scored 20 points. Jake Feldhaus had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Braeden Myrick hit four 3-pointers and scored 12 points and Cole Horch added 11 points.
Conner (7-14) outshot Mason County 51 percent to 41.5 percent from the field.
The Royals were 11-of-30 (36.7 percent) from beyond the arc and 10-of-20 on free throws.
Mason County (14-8) will be right back in action Saturday at 3 p.m. vs. Cooper in the 9th vs.10th Hardwood Classic at Augusta.
