KHSAA makes changes in mercy rule for soccer and football

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association Board of Control on Wednesday approved changes in the mercy rules for soccer and football.

A soccer match will end early when a team takes an eight-goal lead after halftime. The previous mercy rule was a 10-goal margin.

The running clock in football will begin when a team takes a 35-point lead, one point less than the previous rule.

The changes were announced in a press release from the KHSAA.

The press release also said the Board of Control could take possible action at a later meeting on region realignment for basketball and other alignment-related sports.

The release said if it happens, the realignment would be during the 2024-25 school year and would go into effect in the 2025-26 school year.
