The Kentucky high school football season begins Friday night.
The Mason County Royals will travel to Flatwoods to play former district rival Russell.
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association realignment moved Mason County up from Class 3A to Class 4A.
The Royals are in District 5 with Holmes, Harrison County, Grant County and eight-time state champion Covington Catholic.
