Derek Webster, the Mason County Royals' defensive coordinator the past two seasons, is the new head football coach at Western Hills High School in Cincinnati.
Mason County's defense in the 2022 season was third in Class 3A allowing only 15.6 points per game, was No. 1 in interceptions (17), No. 6 in rushing defense (117 yards per game) and No. 11 in passing defense (93 yards per game).
The Royals won a school-record 13 games and advanced to the state semifinals where they lost to Bardstown. That was Mason County's only loss.
