Royals will host Rockcastle County in the 1st round of playoffs

The Mason County Royals will host the Rockcastle County Rockets in the first round of the Class 3A football playoffs on November 4.

Under the new playoff format, first round games are cross-bracketed with Districts 5 and 6 paired. The old format had teams matched up in their own district.

Mason County is the No.1 seed in District 6 and Rockcastle County is the No. 4 seed in District 5. The winner of that game will advance to the second round to play the winner of the Lewis County at Estill County game.

Mason County is currently No. 4 in Class AAA in the KHSAA Ratings Performance Index. The RPI, which will be frozen after this coming week's games, will be used to determine home field advantage in the third and fourth round of the playoffs.

Mason County closes out the regular season at home Friday night vs. the Greenup County Musketeers.

(Updated to correct who the winner of the Mason County vs. Rockcastle County game will play in the second round and that the RPI will be frozen after this coming week's game.)
