The Mason County Royals rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to defeat the Calloway County Lakers 61-57 today in the opening game of the Kentucky 2A Championship boys' basketball tournament in Owensboro.
The Royals led 13-10 at the end of the first quarter, but were outscored 19-4 in the second period.
Mason County (15-3) rallied and outscored Calloway County 44-28 in the second half.
Terrell Henry scored a game-high 18 points. Nate Mitchell followed with 17 points and Philip Bierley added 12 points.
Mason County (15-3) will play Lexington Catholic in the semifinals Saturday at 3:30 p.m. (CST). Lexington Catholic routed Adair County 60-27.
