KHSAA adopts required use of the Universal Tennis Rating

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association Board of Control last week adopted the required use of the Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) beginning with the 2022 tennis season.

"This is basically tracking results as it goes throughout the year, whether you're playing somebody in-state or out-of- state," Associate Commissioner Butch Cope said at the Board of Control work session.

The UTR will be used to determine seeding for the region and state tournaments.

Cope said the UTR will provide a scoreboard for tennis results similar to what is available for football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer and volleyball.

Cope said there would be no cost to the schools. He said approximately 176 Kentucky teams are already using the UTR.

The KHSAA and the UTR are planning Zoom meetings to provide the coaches with more information.

(Updated to include softball in the sports with scoreboards.)
