The Mason County Royals' season-opening four-game winning streak was snapped by a 65-56 loss to the Pikeville Panthers tonight in the Mike Murphy Classic at The Fieldhouse.
After hitting 15-of-29 three-point shots in a 31-point victory over Augusta Friday night, the Royals were just 8-of-24 from behind the arc for 33.3%.
There were eight lead changes and eight ties in the game.
After Pikeville led 57-44 in the fourth quarter, Mason County rallied to within three at 59-56 with 1:19 to play. The Royals' nearly forced a 10-second violation, but the Panthers called a timeout, and scored the final six points of the game.
Pikeville (3-0) out-rebounded Mason County 38-16. The Panthers had a 9-0 advantage in second chance points and outscored the Royals 24-14 on points in the paint.
Terrell Henry led the Royals in scoring with 14 points. Nate Mitchell added 12 points.
Mason County (4-1) is back in action Tuesday night at home vs. the Holmes Bulldogs.
