Mason County track and field coach Mark Kachler announced today that several Mason County athletes are ranked in the top 8 in the state according to kymilesplit.com.
They include:
Alix Flinders, 6th in the 400 meters (53.84)
AJ Barrett, 6th in the pole vault (10-0)
Layla Henderson, 1st in the 3200 meters (11:53.18)
Karis Applegate 2nd in the 100 meters (12.77) and 3rd in the 200 meters (26.57)
Rachel Payne, 3rd in the 300 meter hurdles (49.20) and 6th in the 100 meter hurdles (17.53)
Morgan Carpenter, 8th in the 300 meter hurdles (52.21)
The girls' 4x100 relay team is 3rd (52.47)
The girls' 4x200 relay team is 8th (1:55.81)
The girls' 4x400 relay team is 5th (4:23.12) The top 8 finishers at the state meet score points.
Kachler wrote in an email: "No one gives you awards for the first third of the season. If we don't improve we won't hold those positions. But it is a very positive start."
