A survey conducted by the Kentucky High School Football Coaches Association submitted to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association shows an overwhelming number of coaches want to play out of district teams in the first two rounds of the playoffs.
The past two seasons, the first two rounds of the playoffs have been between teams within the district.
The KHSAA Board of Control voted today to survey the schools on the issue with one vote per school. Each school will decide who casts the vote -- a coach, athletic director, principal or superintendent.
The KHSAA also announced that there will be 15 separate sessions of one game each in the boys' and girls' state basketball tournaments.
In a survey about ticket interest, nearly 60 percent of the boys' ticket holders and nearly 50 percent of the girls' ticket holders want to order for this year's basketball tournaments. Attendance will be reduced because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Swimmers advancing from regional meets will compete in semi-states. The times from the semi-states will be used to determine state champions instead of having the swimmers compete in a state championship meet. There's not a big enough facility to host a state championship with the attendance restrictions.
Spring sports teams will be allowed to play two scrimmages. No changes were made in the spring dates announced last month.
Campbellsville Independent Schools Superintendent Kirby Smith was elected the KHSAA Board of Control President-elect for 2021-22.
