The Augusta boys' cross country team won the Class A Region 5 championship today at Mason County. It's Augusta's first-ever cross country region championship.
The Panthers had a team score of 61 points. Trimble County was the runner-up with 83 points. Bracken County took seventh place with 149 points.
Freshman Bryant Curtis led the Panthers with an eighth place finish with a time of 18.19.62. Three other Augusta runners finished in the top 20: sophomore Connor Snapp was 11th (18.33.93), junior Matthew Jones was 12th (18:38.12) and junior Michael Jones was 13th (18:39.61).
Eighth grader Braylie Curtis, Augusta's only runner in the girls' race finished in ninth place with a time of 21,26.99.
The Bracken County Lady Bears finished in seventh place.
The Class A state meet will be held October 31 at the Bourbon County Cross Country Course.
