A coin toss will replace a jump ball in Kentucky High School Basketball for the 2020-21 season

A coin toss will replace a jump ball in Kentucky high school basketball during the 2020-21 season.

That's one of the rules adopted by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association for play during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The choice of the first possession of the basketball will be awarded to the team winning the coin toss which will be called by the home team.

The alternating possession rule will still be used during the game.

The first overtime period will use a coin toss called by the visiting team.

The alternating possession will determine which team gets the ball at the start of any extra period after the first overtime.

Other changes for the upcoming season include:

  • Only the referee and head coaches will take part in the pregame conference, and there will be no hand shakes in the pregame conference.

  • Shaking hands with opposing players and coaches is prohibited during pregame introductions and after the game.

  • Officials are not required to wear jackets during the pregame.
