News and notes

Here are a few news and notes about local sports to start off the work week:


  • Philip Bierley, a rising sophomore at Mason County, had a big weekend for the 15U Kentucky Select AAU basketball team at the Indy Jamfest in Indianapolis over the weekend. He had a double-double in each of the three games: 13 points and 14 rebounds in a 56-53 loss to Mid Ohio Pumas-Kuhlman, 22 points and 17 rebounds in a 73-54 loss to Quinn Anvils, and 16 points and 11 rebounds in a 68-35 victory over OTP in the Silver Consolation bracket.
  • The Maysville Match Play Championship scheduled October 3 and 4 at Laurel Oaks Golf Course, has added a college division. All proceeds will go to the Cullen Brown Foundation promoting junior golf in Western Kentucky. For more information, contact Tyler Lippert at 606-842-0475.
  • Tyler Lippert is one of four Eastern Kentucky University golfers chosen as Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
