I had heard a lot of great things about Cummins Nature Preserve. Today, I discovered they are all true.
My wife, Glenda, and I hiked a trail at the nature preserve for the first time this afternoon. The only other time I had been on the grounds was several years ago when we made a quick drive through the parking area.
Dr. Claude E. Cummins Jr. donated the property to the community in 1996.
Mason County Fiscal Court and Director Grant Felice have made many improvements to the nature preserve. It features hiking trails, a playground, a picnic shelter and a pond. There is plenty of room for social distancing.
Cummins Nature Preserve is located at 3049 Pickett Lane, not far from Clyde T. Barbour Parkway.
