Local sports notes

Here are a few local sports notes for the final day of January:


  • Mark Blakefield shot a 1-under 69 Thursday in the first round of the Panama Championship, the third tournament of the season on the Korn Ferry Tour.
  • The Mason County indoor track and field team will open the season Saturday at the Wildcat Classic at Nutter Fieldhouse at the University of Kentucky.
  • Homecoming at St. Patrick is Saturday night. The Saints will play Walden in a varsity game only at 7:30 p.m. Homecoming festivities will begin at 6:45 p.m. St. Patrick's 1994-95 team will be recognized at halftime. That team won the school's first 10th Region All "A" Classic championship.
  • Mason County football recruit night for current 8th graders will be held Friday, February 7th from 6 to 7:15 p.m. at the high school football facility. Each student-athlete and two parents or guardians are invited. Each student -athlete will receive two tickets to the February 7th Mason County vs. George Rogers Clark boys' basketball game.
  • The date for the recognition of the 1969-70 Mason County Royals basketball team and cheerleaders has been moved to February 15th.
