Royals snap 3-game losing streak with a 60-57 win over Ashland

The Mason County Royals snapped a three-game losing streak with a 60-57 road win over the Ashland Tomcats tonight.

The Royals led for most of the second and third quarters, but trailed 55-52 late in the game.

With Mason County trailing 57-56, Carson Brammer was fouled on a three-point shot with 24 seconds left. He missed the first free throw, made the second and missed the third, but he ran down the rebound in the left corner.

Jaylen Lofton made one-of-two free throws to give the Royals a 58-57 lead with 13 seconds remaining.

Ashland missed a shot, Lofton got the rebound and was fouled with 1.2 seconds left. He sank both free throws and Ashland's inbounds pass was intercepted  by A.P. Perry at midcourt.

There were two ties and four lead changes in the fourth quarter.

The Royals shot just 36.8 percent field and were 2-of-15 from beyond the arc, but they scored 16 points off the Tomcats' 16 turnovers and had 16 second chance points thanks to a 21-14 advantage on offensive rebounds.

Jeremiah Jones scored a game-high 19 points for Mason County.
Xylon Frey followed with 17 points and Lofton added 10 points.

The Royals play the Highland Bluebirds in Ft. Thomas Tuesday night.
